in the more smileys section, "welcome to idnet" "thanks" and " groan" always appear as half a square, with a red cross in the corner, but no smiley.
all other smileys are ok and work!!!

rarely an avatar does the same,

anyone any ideas please

Rik

What browser, AV and firewall, Bob?

Have you tried pressing Ctrl+f5, does that bring them through?

well theres a thing , i did,nt do anything and they,ve come back ok, they had been like that for ages, must be the work of the hoobs !!!

simon which cache did you mean ? every so often i clear the prefetch cache.

thanks RIK and SIMON for your help

Rik

The browser cache, Bob. Sometimes there may be a problem with an avatar that's hosted on an external site, eg PhotoBucket, not being available, but smileys should always work. If they don't, clearing the cache and refreshing often cures the problem.

hell RIK you,re faster than a high speed bullet.
its IE6,
yes i know firefox,IE7 but i tried them and could,nt get on with them too well
bob

Rik

Tools > Internet options > General > Delete files (middle of the window).

What didn't you like about FF? I've got IE6, FF & Opera on two machines, IE7, FF and Opera on this machine. I prefer FF of the four browsers, but it's very much personal taste.

thanks rik, i clear that fairly regularly , but i know them as temp files ,not cache, thats why i was confused

i tried FF but there was something i could'nt do on there one day , and only IE could, that was when i changed back.
from the way your post reads ,it suggests you can have FF and IE6 both on the same computer at the same time.
without restarting can you switch between the two ???
if thats the case think i'll give FF another try, and if i get confused etc i can always switch
bob

Rik

You can put all three browsers, plus Safari if you're a masochist :), on the same machine, Bob and just pick and choose which one you use. One needs to be declared as your default browser, but you can change that at any time.

I had the same issue with FF, until Simon introduced us to the IE Tab add-on. Now, you can easily make FF use the IE engine to render a particular page, if there's trouble with FF.

By the way, if you ever have a problem with images on a page, always try Ctrl+F5 as this forces the browser to reload from the server. :)
