Wow, something not right here at all!!
The net seemed a bit sluggish so i ran a few speedtests.

My speeds are almost never under 6meg download and if they are, only just.
I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Yet another isolated, unexplained, report Ted. My speeds are spot on still. Do you know when you go 21CN?

IIRC its late 2009. I'm not overly bothered, looks like a had a few random PPP disconnects recently going by the logs.

Which are the symptoms I've seen when I've been able to identify 21CN work.

I wish BT would come clean on what exactly to expect from the work, and when. :(

Hopefully just a glitch somewhere :fingers:
I'll frighten the life out of the router and reboot it in the morning if there's no change. But i'm sure it'll be fine.

I just ran a Namesco speedtest and got very poor results (around 600k, compared with my usual 4000k). I'm just trying to do a BT speed test (trying being the key word) to see if it's Namesco or something else.

Right, the results from the BT speed test are fine, so I suspect it's a Namesco issue.

Rik

I've just run one, Sebby, slightly optimistic for a 3000 profile, but in their normal range.

Server load? Network traffic at that time? Wind direction? It's why I don't put too much faith in testers - too many variables.

My speed is down by around 25% at BT, Thinkbroadband and at Namesco.

Reminds me of my days at Plusnet..  :puke:

Yes i saw that but it said there was a problem right at the start, i didn't expect it to go any further but it did, only not to finish.
I'll try again later, don't usually have any problem.

wonder woman

Have had very low speeds for most of this week.  Just run a speedtest on thinkbroadband and this is the result

Date   12/04/08 17:12:35
Speed Down   430.05 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Speed Up   376.34 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port   8095
Server   speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Unfortunately I am unable to run the bt speedtest.  Spoke to support on Friday afternoon and the lady suggested I send them the results of my speed test over the weekend if I have sluggish speeds.  Obviously I will be doing this.  I know my line wont take a great speed but this is really slow and driving the old man up the wall.   ;D ;D

Rik

What are your line stats, WW? What happens when you try to run a BT test?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2112 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 49 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 8 db 21 db

Unable to run a BT speedtest for the past 3 weeks. Just keeps coming up with error message even when trying it a 3am

Rik

For that sync speed, you should be on a profile of 1750, throughput around 1500k. Let support have your results, they can test the line for you. You do appear to have had your target noise margin raised, which suggests there has been some instability.

Which browser are you using for the BT test? Have you checked you have the latest version of Java? What AV software/firewall do you use?

Using IE6.

Use AVG anti-virus, Windows firewall and downloaded the latest version of java the other day.

Rik

It should work. It might be worth disabling both the AVG and the firewall for the duration of the test.

Will try it again later tonight. If it doesn't work support checked it for me before so hopefully they will do it again.

Just done another think broadband test and the speed has increased abit.

Date 12/04/08 18:08:32
Speed Down 1398.98 Kbps ( 1.4 Mbps )
Speed Up 376.19 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Although no where near what I was getting at the beginning of the week which was nearly 2900Kbps.

Was a BT engineer working in the street earlier in the week and god help him if he has messed up my line     ;D ;D

Rik

I wonder whether you've had a lower speed sync, which has dropped the profile. Does the router log indicate any dropped connections?

Not showing any. Have been connected for the past 26 hours (had to disconnect the router yesterday afternoon due to a thunderstorm).

Rik

Wise move. I use:

to monitor storms.

I think the best thing is to contact support, then, as you really need to get them to test the line. Sorry. :(

Rik I forgot to say that the sync speed has dropped since last weekend when it was about 3700.

Thanks for all your help and I will send support an e-mail tomorrow night with the other speed tests I will do during tomorrow.

It's seems okay now - perhaps a little lower than I'd expect - but much more normal.

Now, this is a bit better. Still a couple of meg off but better ;D

Still can't run a BT speedtest. I even fired up the dual boot laptop, INTO WINDOWS 1e7 :eek4:, updated java, all to no avail. They all stop at 96%.
Apparently the "system still has the problem".

I think the tester may have had an issue, Ted, as it was OK for me, but not for you, Sebby and Johnny. OTOH, I was on DSL4 when I checked, while the three of you are on GW5, so...

It does look like the BT server is broken again. From memory, this happened last weekend as well. :(

I use exactly that, minus the Windows Firewall, never have a problem using the BT Speed Tester.

Still getting that message, but it works anyway.  If anything, my speeds are slightly higher than normal in the last few days, as per the test I've just run - posted only to wind Rik up of course.  >:D ;D

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
   DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6703 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
