Is the first 10days of the Maxdsl service capped at 2mb?

Does anyone know wheather the maxdsl service is capped at 2mb for the first 10days as I changed over 3days ago now and all speed test still tell me I have a 2mb connection which I was on before.Antone know?

Don't worry - im on day 8 and on about day 6 you will see speeds of 4 mbps+ on speedtests, same happened to me

Thankyou very much for replying,will see how it goes I guess.Also I am only 458meters from the bt exchange I,ve heard being close helps.I am going to buy a adsl2/2+ router I,ve read they help a lot speed wise .Thanks

Hi, welcome to IDNetters

Save the expense, MaxDSL is nothing to do with ADSL2+ which is a different technology altogether

It is normal that, during the initial 10 day period, the equipment at your exchange needs to establish the best possible synchronisation between you and it to set a benchmark which will establish what it deems a stable connection. BT have stated that once MaxDSL sync has started, you may see throughput of 2MBit even though you may be syncing a lot higher. They reckon that after 75 minutes of permanent sync, you should see quicker throughput, however, some users have remarked that this isn`t always the case.

If you`re one of these unfortunate users, try manually rebooting your equipment, though I stress that you may just have to sit it out and wait until the equipment at the exchange gives you a better throughput ... this is out of IDNets hands I`m afraid :\

just buy something like a 2nd hand speedtouch 580 like i did £30. I think anything with ethernet should work well. Personally i think routers (with built in modem) have an edge over modems - i seem to get a more stable connection and problems are a lot easier to diagnose, not to mention the added security

It dosn't always work that way, I have never had speeds any faster than 3600, mine have now settled a 2640. just a warning.

I sync at 3240, and d/l at approx 2mb speeds, a 100%+ improvement over what I had before

try turing off ur modem/router at night and turning it on at an early time such as 8am and it should sync higher...hopefully

You will usually sync higher on a morning as there is less chance of elictrical crosstalk affecting your line (which in turn drops SNR below BTs threshold which usually means a resync).

More importantly, it is throughput we, as end users are interested in. Unfortunately, there are peeps like myself who enjoy a good sync rate (6.4MBit) but sometimes only acheive throughput of under 1MBit. Even more unfortunate, this is down to BTs congested exchanges and their refusal to enter the 21st century and upgrade to suit the ever bloating population of potential DSL subscribers ... IDNet have tried and failed to get this ongoping issue sorted for me, BT just don`t wanna know
