Hello

About 9.30pm my connection dropped and would not reconnect although the router kept trying to do so.  The synch with the exchange (Kempston, Bedfordshire) was fine.

I rebooted the router but no PPP session could be established.  I switched the router off for a few minutes and I have finally been able to reconnect although the PPP session several attempts to connect.  I'm on GW5 if that's any help.

Interestingly, when I was with f2s any router reboot would allow a PPP session to connect immediately.  With IDNet it normally takes 2 or 3 attempts for it to connect.  Is this normal?  The synch to the exchange is always instant and has never been an issue.

Thanks for your help!

Tim

Ted

Had the same thing happen at 21.13, just went down for no reason. Took about 3mins to come back up.
couple of the log entries were

PPP0 connection lost
PPP0 Chap authentication failure
PPP0 connection terminated

I'm GW5 as well

the 2700 came back up on its own with no reboot

LCP went down at 8:13pm,

I'm on DSL4

Dopamine

Same PPP session loss here too, at 9:12 for 3 minutes according to my router log.

After many weeks of speed problems, my connection had been stable for the last few days with good speeds, but today the slow and fluctuating speeds have returned culminating in the dropped connection tonight.

Sebby

I can confirm that my PPP session dropped at 21.13 for around 1 minute. I didn't notice - I just checked the log. I'm on GW5.

Absolutely identical to me, even the fluctuating speeds today, very strange!

My connection dropped also at around 9.15pm according to my router.

Also after a over a week of excellent speeds since the weekend my speeds
have been fluctuating between about 1meg to the usual 5.5meg even
within a minute so!

It sounds as if BT are  having fun somewhere - I will see how it goes.

Cookiemonster

Yup same here! Dropped for about 2 mins didn't notice though as i was gaming!

Haven't noticed any drop in speed though still rock solid at full sync. I'm on GW5.

I predict a pattern too...

The old established IDNetters will blame BT, the newer IDNetters will not be so sure.

PPP session losses are usually something to do with the ISP, aren't they?

Sebby

They are, although they can be caused by BT. Last time this happened (a few weeks back, IIRC) IDNet made a statement on here and something had happened outside of their systems.

jane

Same time here too. I guess we won't know how widespread the problem was unless we go looking on other forums. I know my friend had problems on his BT connection yesterday so maybe it is something to do with the notice on the main status page about BT maintenance.
Jane

kinmel

Also happened here on dsl4 at 21.13, although I had an immediate reconnect.

My neighbour's BTInternet connection was not affected according to his logs ( I look after his kit and can log into his router by wireless )

Forgot to put the router clock forward an hour last time

I guess I fall in to that category, I wouldn't blame BT, nor IDNet, nor the street lights etc.

Simply because, like I suspect everyone else on here, I just don't know. ;)
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

I think that sums it up pretty well, In. :thumb:

Nah, blame BT.. I hate them and will make me feel better if more people hate them  :P

Simon

I can also confirm, something happened at 21:13, but I have been out all day and evening, so have just checked the log, which I don't understand anyway!  No dropped link, so must have just been PPP?

Not sure how it works on LLU but no drops last night on O2, saying that our exchange is going all 21cn this year so I expect a big bang from over the rooftops at some point, when they cock it up ;)
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

PPP failures can occur due to IDNet or BT, I'll see if I can find out anything.

Rik

IDNet have checked their logs, there are no issues showing. There was no scheduled BT work at that time, so the suspicion is a BT-MUX issue. Fwiw, my connection did drop momentarily, DSL4.

Absolutely no idea, tbh, Ted. I've seen nothing like that. You should be on GW5, so I wonder whether this is an internal code to the router?

Fwiw, I've just noticed I also had a momentary PPP loss at 14:03 yesterday.

Same pattern as everyone else, Noreen. It wasn't a realm issue, iow it affected both DSL4 and GW5. I half wonder, as it only seems to have affected IDNet, whether BT did something to the centrals...

Same pattern as everyone else,
Late as is often the case but when my line dropped at circa 9:15 PM last evening I simply switched the router off and left it until this morning because had I reconnected at that time of the evening I would put money on the fact the it would have been at a low enough rate to drop my profile by 500 kbps! Don't you just love BT?

Les.

Rik

No-one's reported a sync drop though, Les, only the PPP session, so speed should not have been affected (mine wasn't).

I didn't wait there had been some thunder and lightning earlier so I threw the mains switch and unplugged the ADSL. Too late I know if the had been a surge on the line but I was only browsing at the time so I shut everything down and waited until this morning when all was back to normal I am pleased to report.  :)
