Slightly confused

Now I know it doesn't take much to baffle me.right here goes, I don't believe this is a speed issue(makes a change I hear you cry)last night I was looking back over various threads which might relate to my confusion
First off I did a speed test,no don't groan and the results were
Down 4053.85
Up 448
Line ant 43db down
11.5 db up
Noise margin 6db down
26 db up

Then I double checked and speed was around 2m
In my  efforts to see if all was as it should have been I checked the stats in the router.(good practice etc)
They gave a bigger reading and I think I can upload them

As the speed didn't match nor really come near (after 3 tries the were 1.9 I started looking around and  found a link Rik had put on which showed me how to download and run router stats.
The connection is solid and then its a bit gobbled gook.

So why am I posting this,well these speeds are to do with my desk top which is no wireless,yet when I turned on the laptop which is upstairs and is wires less the speed were very healthy showing at 5m at times.
I think this may be about performance rather than speed and I'm not sure what thread it would go in.
there isn't a heading for a skip.Its a little confusing though,and some of it does point to router but then again it works fine for wireless apart from this machine.I am going to change it but the 2 wire job looks complicated and you know me..This isn't driving me up the wall just cant understand it....any advice would be throughly appreciated and will result in me giving you all a week off my terrible jokes

Have you got the latest firmware for your router? that can make a difference if it updates the adsl firmware

Can you do a BT test, David, and post the results. That will establish your sync speed, profile and throughput. We can then kick the tyres a bit.

One possibility may be that the machine you are using has an MTU setting which is very inefficient.

according to an engineer who came out a while ago I have,just carried out a speed test with TB and its very healthy 4.7
0.4 up

I actually got past the login stage or rather the phone number last night but the message was wouldn't recognize the login details i put in my Email address is this correct?

The other point which may or may not be relevant is last night for a clue of some kind I switched browser to IE and a few times page not displayed came up which I have not seen for ages and may have no connection to all this but it did happen

I think you might be getting sync and speed confused, David. Sync is the rate at which your router connects with the exchange, and the speed is the actual throughput achieved.

A BT speed test is the best way to reveal whether there is a profile/speed issue.

Sorry Rik,one of the children split a lip, Bt test page loaded but I got exception access denied socket permission 217.35.209.142.50301 resolv.? but will try again with IE.

Your IP profile is always less than the line rate and is normal on any network.

The Actual IP throughput is the average rate that was achieved during this test.

Those figures are fine, David. Profile is correct for the sync speed (you're 32k below the step to 6000), throughput is about right for the profile.

I hope the lip recovers soon.

That Bt tester is confusing,it stated quite clearly testing do not move or download...I stood there for 20 minutes !!!!
