Pipex to Idnet questions

Hi all,


My pipex contract is going to end in may 21st, and they require me to let them know a month in advance that i want to cancel with them. So i'm going to ring them this monday april 21st to get my mac code, i was wondering when do i give it to idnet?  can i arrange them to take over from 21st of may?

If you contact IDNET CS and explain they will be able to sort it all out for you.  It's a free number as well.  But only Mon to Fri.

Hi and welcome! :welc:

When you get your MAC code you can give it to IDNet at any time, but in your case you would give it a few days before your contract with pipex expires. I think all MAC codes expire after 30 days too. You can just request a new after that though so no dramas there.

Hi for  what its worth I got my mac code from Tiscali and gave it over to IDnet I think within a few hours and they did the rest they really are so helpful,and I cant recall the exact details but the way I did it ensured that there was not any problems when it came to expiry of the mac code.as it was already in another isps hands so to speak, so in my case I covered all areas and gave it over almost immediately and then the migration went OK.There were one or two problems but none related to either the actual process of migration and certainly nothing which could be done from IDnet .It was a BT problem which I would not think you will have. hope this helps and look forward to welcoming you. 8)

Most migrations take 3-5 working days to go through. Personally, I'd arrange a date of May 15 with IDNet. That allows a couple of days in hand in case BT mess anything up. As Alf says, if you have a word with them, they'll organise a date to suit you.

Note that, once you have signed up and received your login details, you can set up your email addresses, web space, blog space and photo album before you actually move. The email will work immediately, so you can let people know your new address in good time.

IDNet were happy to arrange a particular date for a couple of my migrations. I placed the order online, then called them straight away. :)

Thankyou very much people, i'll take on board all your advice and hope to be joining IDNET very shortly.

The package i'm looking to get is the supermax, the "Priority at the Exchange"  quote caught my attention and was thinking how they could set this up, do they tell BT to put my connection to the top of their exchange or is it a setting at the home of IDNET servers?

Sorry about the questions, i'm just intrigued how its achieved.

Hi Jim

SuperMax is routed differently on the BT network, and it's that which gets it the priority. It's really a service designed for businesses, but available to the rest of us. Once you reach IDNet, you'll get the same speeds as everyone else, the real benefits are the priority across the BT network and, of course, the higher upload speed.

At the moment with pipex i get a sync of 5mb and when i do a speed test its like its lying to me always 1mb and if im lucky over 2mb sometimes  on a up to 8mb service. When i joined them a year ago i got throttled instantly because i downloaded alot of data in that first week, i couldn't do anything about it because i was bined in a  12 month contract  :(

My next door neighbour has bt broadband and they get sync of 5.7mb and their speed tests kinda confirm that, but they told me they've had many problems in the past and with the call centre mostly made up of people from india who are hard to communicate with they had no choice but to stay with them and cope with the problems.

To put it simple:

When i saw this company IDNET, i thought it was too good to be true, being unrestricted  with an english helpline answering in a few rings and with only 1 month contracts. The reviews about this isp on the internet made me make up my mind straight away what i was gonna do and that is join it  :)


So thanks people for all your helpful responses, i hope to be enjoying the same experiences that you  registered IDNET customers are having atm.  :thumb:

I'm sure you will be, Jim. IDNet make a point of not over-subscribing their network, so your line will go as fast as physics allow at all times, subject to BT congestion (which none of use can escape).

This is what makes them so good. The service is great, you can call a free or geographical number, speak to one of just a few dedicated people, always get through straight away... What more could anyone ask for? :P

never had any connection issues and what you see in my sig below is pretty contant no matter whne i'm surfing.

Hi Jim,

I've just recently migrated to IDNet (been on their service for 3 days now) and already I'm seeing a great improvement over my old ISP (Nildram/Tiscali).  Initially there were some latency / speed issues but it sorted itself out really quickly (I've had my best ever speedtest yesterday too.)

The people both on this forum and at support are really helpfull.  eg.  I had a problem setting up my photo gallery, I emailed support and got a reply saying the problem had been sorted about 2 hrs later!

You won't regret migrating :)

When you ring Pipex let them know you want to migrate not that you want to terminate your service with them.  If you do the latter they may well shut you off more or less immediately. 

It might be worth you hopping over to the Pipex forum on TBB.  Several people have fallen foul of Pipex admin snafus, so forewarned might be forearmed as they say.

That said my sister left Pipex about 6 weeks ago to come here.  No trouble except for a minor problem I had with setting up Apple Mail for her.  When I rang iDNet the phone was answered in three rings (honest!) and Miriam had the problem sorted no messing.  After Pipex it was good to find support that was a) comprehensible and b) knew what they were talking about.

I doubt you'll regret coming here.

When i was with bt broadband i decided to leave and go to pipex, i cancelled the contract and so a few days after - pipex asked me for the mac code, But when i asked bt for it they said its too late because theres already a cease on my line and so had to setup a new activation data with pipex which waisted time.
Don't really fancy having the same happening here especially with the £47 activation charge  :(

All the speedtests i do now, they show i'm with isp Tiscali uk limited and not (Pipex) who are well known for their traffic management apparantly. Discusted that they never told us pipex customers that we are now part of an inferior network.  :mad:

I'm presuming that they didn't do a mailshot because even they realise they were putting you on an inferior network  >:D

Plus the fact that they don't communicate with their customers. After all, customers aren't important to them, profits are (which is ironic, as I believe they are making huge losses).
