Hi Jim

They don't count weekends, so it's three working days. As soon as you get the confirmation emails, don't forget that you can set up your email addresses etc from your accounts page. Given that it's happening in three working days, my guess is that you are not LLU, so you probably won't even notice the migration happen.

You want the router set to routed VC-Mux, 0, 38, MTU of 1500.

Just phoned pipex to get my mac code, they said i will receive it in 5 days. Also asked me for a mobile number so they can contact me to make sure i get it!   i'm surprised to hear that they would go all out to do that for me. But i heard if they don't give me the code then they would get into trouble from ofcom?

Anyway i'll keep checking my mailbox this week for it, hopefully they will keep to their word.  :fingers:

We had the same problem, fortunately I had managed to get the direct mobile number of a Pipex engineer who was being made redundant, we he called me on the day I cancelled the account, he asked if I had asked for my MAC code and I said yes and that it would be sent in the post, (this was the 16th April), he then said "Oh I can give you that now over the phone" I gratefully accepted and got straight onto Idnet to set my account up. We had a phonecall yesterday evening from someone in the MAC code department at Pipex to check I got my MAC code ok...and guess what we haven't, thats 8 days late, she didn't seemed bothered and just said thanks we will update our records.
In other words if I'd left it to Pipex and not took the initiative I wouldn't be with Idnet now.
Best decision I made his year!

Regarding the strange format of that BTspeedtest.
When I was on AOL I was on a fixed 2Mb service (well 1Mb mostly) this was the format of all my BTw speed test results. As soon as I got on IDnet on a max adaptive service that AOL told me I was on the format changed to the one you're all familiar with. Never had an unbundled connection.

Hi people,

From today i'm now a user of IDnet and have been connected since early morning today. But theres a problem i think  :-\

I decided to do a few speedtests and everytime its the same speed result, even if i choose say a server thats from another country!  the results are in my sig below.

My next door neighbour on bt did a speedtest for me and had this result:

As you can see theres a huge difference in the download speed compaired to mine, but my upload seems to be fine.

So i wanted to ask, is this normal for the first day of activation?  or do i need to ring support?

Thanks

Hey Jim.

I think you have a case of the stuck 2000k profile. Would be handy if you could do a BT speedtest and that will tell you what your IP profile is.

jimconsole

Hi Jester,

Thx for replying.

This is the outcome i get when i input my telephone number into the bt speedtest website and click GO.

Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly, but if this problem persists raise the issue with your service provider.

I did try this site out earlier a few times but i get the same thing.

Are you using FF or IE? Thats the only problem with BT speed tester its very temperamental.

Rik

Were you an LLU migration, Jim, I can't remember?

I think you've got the classic 2Mbps profile on migration, it should lift automatically in 3-5 days. If not, contact support.

Yep, same result on either browser.

I'm not 100% sure Rik, but it took around 5 days to complete the migration/activation (inc weekends)  so if they don't work weekends then its 3 days so maybe an ip stream i think.

Is this kinda a training period im in or something similar?
2500k stuck profile,  will it increase?

Rik

If it's not LLU, there's no new training period, but people coming from Pipex often seem to arrive with a 2M profile for some reason. :( It didn't used to happen, so may be down to the introduction of Tiscali's systems.

If you phone support, they'd be able to confirm your profile for you.

I'll do that, thanks Rik  :thumb:

jimconsole

Your spot on there guys.

Apparantly they are retraining the line to get the best maximum speed, therefore the 2mb profile will rise in a few days or so, (if not tell them).

Thanks  ;)

Glad we guessed right, Jim. As I said, this seems to be happening with Tipex refugees, I suspect that IDNet have noticed that the incoming profiles don't look as good as they should. :) Heaven will be along shortly.  :thumb:

Hi Jim,

I am also a very new addition to the wonders of Idnet, coming from a long standing relationship with Pipex...the divorce was more like War of the Roses. The one thing I can assure you of is that Idnet don't lie everything gets done when they say it will, you get great speeds and everyone on this forum is a genuinely nice person. I promise you I am a cynical old man (36) and they are slowly turning me into a tree hugging hippy..giving love and joy and more importantly good karma to all I meet.

It's quite an unusual experience!!

stirling

I Have mentioned this on another page but as im new to this i feel i must join the debate, or should i say put my oar into the debacle caused by the once great pipex fiasco, and sorry to repeat myself

im new to idnet but, after almost a year of broken promises of better speeds and so called sweetners to stay with pipex, i asked for a mac code on 28th march, this duely came back and was invalid, i was charged £100 for breaking my contract with pipex, even tho the promise of better speeds by upgrading didnt materialise, some days my  speed was as low as 87kbps, after numerous phone calls to premium rated amatuer technicians i finaly got my code and joined idnet, and more than pleasantly surprised by courtesy i have recieved on phone im also very impressed with internet speeds im recieving.
Thank you IDNET for restoring my  faith in isps

Rik

You can keep saying that all day, Stirling.  :thumb:
