ok
im new to idnet but, after almost a year of broken promises of better speeds and so called sweetners to stay with pipex, i asked for a mac code on 28th march, this duely came back and was invalid, i was charged £100 for breaking my contract with pipex, even tho the promise of better speeds by upgrading didnt materialise, some days my  speed was as low as 87kbps, after numerous phone calls to premium rated amatuer technicians i finaly got my code and joined idnet, and more than pleasantly surprised by courtesy i have recieved on phone im also very impressed with internet speeds im recieving.
Thank you IDNET for restoring my  faith in isps
lol  sorry thats last time i will mention them, just lookin forwards now to hopefully years of a decent internet connection
and thanx for the welcome you guys

Rik

We're happy you're happy, and we're happy because we get the service and support. IDNet aren't the cheapest, but when something does go wrong, you quickly see what you're paying for. :)

This all started when i was hostin a chat room usin the winmx service, for four years there was no problems but once tiscali , who i  left because of poor service and bandwidth throttlin,  took over my problems started, its taken over a year now to be free of pipex and i cant believe the difference in service, when i called pipex  it was premium rated and no one ever helped with the problems, i was promised 3 free months rental to make up for time i couldnt connect but instead they took double out my bank, then when i finaly managed to get a mac code, after contacting to offcom, they told me there was nothing to pay as i was in credit and they still took £100 from my bank account, i just hope this goes a little way to explain why i feel so anti pipex.
Its nice to find like minded people who have had similar problems and found a solution and to hear idnet dont throttle bandwidth, im excited at prospect of becoming an internet user once again, although not sure how keen my wifes gonna be now.
Keep up the good work and ill be checking the forum regular

Rik

Not only don't they throttle, but if you get a problem, it's a freefone number (geographic available if you're calling from a mobile) and it will be answered in a few rings by someone who doesn't read from a script, and who will take ownership of your problem.

It's worlds apart from the other 17 ISPs I've used. ;D

Best ever isp i had was liberty surf,  remembethem?  paid £60 for a full years subscription could use net anytime and throttlin hadnt been invented, havent quiet gone through 17 isps but ah for the good old days, but then again maybe i should just stay quiet and not show my age ;)

Rik

I must have missed Liberty in my travels. I was first online in 1983, using a 1200/75 acoustic coupler, then moved to a 300 baud modem, graduating through all the subsequent standards to 56k before moving to BB. I must get out more. :)

No, back then it was all local BBS', linked by Fidonet. It took 24 hours to get an email delivered. Prestel (a teletext-like service) changed many things and was the start of the online community as we now know it.

Rik s first speed test can be found on the dead sea scrolls, also I believe that a guy called moses had his written in stone and was so unhappy he threw them down a big mountain...didn't know tiscali had been around that long  >:D
Many hammer all over the wall and believe that with each blow they hit the nail on the head.

Rik

You're right - I used to peak at one glyph per minute. ;D

Before i  migrated 1 glyph per min with pipex would have been an improvement.

Rik

Pipex was the first dial-up ISP I used. I found them to be insufferably arrogant and left fairly quickly. I'm rather pleased that I got the pain over with before contracts started to be used. :(

Totalise

My first ISP, free dial up and they even gave you free shares, the more you used it, the more you got.

Rik

Most of my former ISPs seem to have perished or been taken over, Malc. Worrying that...

Mentioning libertysurf again made me wonder what happened to them, i now recall they were swallowed up by tiscali, who i then left to join pipex because of poor service, hmmmmm  then tiscali come onto the scene with pipex, a case of deja vu?

Rik

Look out, they're following you around.  ;D
