epson stylus photo 750

Epson printers are rubbish. 9 years I've had the 750 and now it's decided to stop operating perfectly.
Don't they build things to last these days??

Now, I have the following ink cartridges looking for a good home ...... Jettec E14 and Jettec E17 (3 of each) suitable for stylus colour 400,440,460,500,600,640,660,670 and stylus photo 700,750,1200. PM me if you want them f.o.c. but I'll charge you postage.
Note that I've always found Jettec cartridges to be extremely good!!
Am replacing the 750 (

) with an epson RX685 from Amazon for £99.99 (found them elsewhere for nearly £200 so that can't be bad. Supposed to be a bit noisy ... will help to drown out 'er indoors.

You just can't get the quality products these days, can you.

I retired a Laserjet after 12 years. It's still chugging away happily in its new home, two years later.

Printers are rubbish!

I'm using an Epson Stylus C80 which is pretty old, works with Vista though without having to install a driver.

I've got an Epson C70, still going well after about 6 or 7 years, but my R300 packed up and declared that "Internal parts have reached the end of their life and need servicing". I presumed it would cost more to have it serviced than buying a new one, so binned it. I've now got the Epson R340 photo which up till now seems OK.

That message usually indicates the 'overflow sponge' is full, or that the printer thinks it is. It's usually wrong.

I sorted an Epson out using that SSC utility and it worked a charm. I did have an old HP 870CXi which we retired recently, still going strong after 12 years. We also had a HP 550c which lasted about 9 years.

My epson r220 is cr*p to say the least
They are programmed to say ink cartridges are empty before they are... etc.

Im not going back to epson again...they always cr*p out on me

I prefer HP, but hear Canon make good printers too. I would certainly avoid Lexmark, Epson etc.

I've used virtually every major brand. Lexmark are to be avoided like the plague, imo. Epson did make good photo-printers, but I feel they have lost that crown to Canon. HP make great workhorse printers (and hydras). If I had to settle for a single printer, it would be an HP. OTOH, printers are like backups with me, so I have an HP laser, an HP hydra, a Canon photo-printer, a Sagem dye-sub, a Dymo Labelwriter and an HP portable photo printer. All I'm missing is a dot-matrix really.

I have a Brother all-in-one, In. Sure, the print quality is far from great, but it's extremely cheap to run and maintain, and it does everything we want it to do with no hassle.

For me, I print most of my stuff in the fast draft mode, but I like to know that the ability to print high quality (particularly photos) prints is there.

I'm the same, Lance. My hydra is the main printer, and it's set to use fast draft. For most purposes it's more than adequate, but it makes cartridge use quite economical. At the other end of the scale, though, I can produce excellent quality, especially if I use a specialist paper, and the copy quality can be exceedingly good.

so what kind would u recommend for me? family use, homework mostly but looking for use with photos (niceish quality)

something which doesnt cost £10 a cartridge (x6) and then use half the cartridge and say its empty $:-\$ really is quite expensive especially when it then decides to get all mucky inside

and print all kinds of cr*p down the side lol

wireless printers look sexy and a very good idea in theory

I've got the C5180 and it's great! Print quality for photos is no different to lab results, whilst the fast draft mode at the other end of the spectrum produces good results at rapid speed. The colour ink cartridges cost about £6 each from HP, but use the code HPLOYALITY and you get 10% (delivery is free as well). The ink usage itself is economical too!

Wired networking would be just as good to me as wireless as the router covers the house anyway xD

Is there a version of that minus the fax? Is it easy to keep clean? (house is dusty)

The fax facility is pretty much built into these beasts, Sam, it's just a case of whether they freestand or use the computer. You might not think you will use a fax, but there are times when it's the best and easiest way to do things.

The C5180 can only fax via the computer, Sam. Very easy to keep clean,just needs a quick wipe every now and then!

I'd say it was perfect for Sam, and HPs don't tend to dry up if you don't use them for a day or two (I fired one up that I hadn't used for 15 months and it printed a perfect page straight off...)
