I'm shocked that the system scanner got this wrong, but the good thing is that Crucial will admit the fault as you bought the RAM it detected, rather than selecting manually.

David

Thanks Sebby nothing I can do until Monday now have sent them the detail and had a reply stating could take 5 days to get back to me......no phone number....... ???

God knows what I did to this thing...ok when I removed the existing memory sticks or whatever tey are called they were very dusty and of course I cleaned them before reinstalling them....but his machine is flying along like I have never known it to....yet just for the crack carried out a speedcheck and its slower than usual so its the machine which has really become much more responsive, which makes no sense at all still Im happy.

If you are not sure, use the link that I provided David, they are both very similar programmes.

Just click on a USA Flag on the provided link. ;)

Standalone might be better as it doesn't install anything. :thumb:

David

Thats interesting.and I mean really is for me at least shows everything on this machine and as I havnt got the hang of screen shots....only been trying for about a month, managed once but will try and do one according to  the report these are indeed wrong for my machine Im impressed and wished I had had this on before instead of relying on the scan.

I see their t&c they state that a 20% charge for restocking them is made.I hope they dont try this as its their error and not mine for once. :eyebrow:

Not sure which one you decided on David, but the one in my link even knows the date the memory was manufactured, as well as the date my monitor was made.. :clever: :clever:

Assuming you've got it up and running, David, on the left hand side, you should see a column of main options, a bit like a folder tree.  If it's not already opened, click the + box next to Hardware, and then you should see Memory about fifth in the list.  Click that, and the info will be displayed in the main window, and yes, Ray did post a screenshot.

Same with the Everest one that I posted a link to, it even tells me the date my monitor was made, it even gives the serial number/date of manufacture and of course type of memory etc.

Hi David,

Did the DVD drive turn out to be PATA (IDE - large 40 pin connector) or SATA? (two small black connectors) That machine came out the factory right around the time many companies were switching over so I don't know what it is.

If it's PATA then this should fit in nicely:

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=5318&SearchType=2&CategorySelectedId=11026&SearchTerms=lightscribe+black&PageMode=2&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=11026,4294957178

It comes with three different colour fronts (if I understand the listing), a copy of Nero so you have software, can burn both single layer (4.7GB) and dual layer (8GB) discs and it also does Lightscribe (flip the disc over and use appropriate software to burn a black and white label image direct onto the disc.) I don't know if Nero does Lightscribe but you can get free software at http://www.lightscribe.com

If the machine is SATA then this should fit the bill...

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=53WH&SearchType=2&CategorySelectedId=11026&SearchTerms=lightscribe+black&PageMode=2&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=11026,4294956835

However, as stated in sod's law it's out of stock.

The good news is that almost all the drives in that class come in at under £20 :) Most drives are decent (I like Plextor [expensive but very good], Samsung and LG) but I wouldn't touch a Sony with a 10' sterilized one.

Cheers,
Paul.

p.s. Yes, you machine is well up there with the P4s. I have a 3.06GHz in the office downstairs. I think that or maybe 3.2 was as fast as they went so your machine was pretty much the dog's dooberries at the time.

edit: installing should be easy. Just make sure you are gentle an dpull the cables straight out so you don't damage them and that you use  the appropriate screws (not too long) when you screw the new drive in. You may need to slide the drive back and forwards a bit before tightening the screws to get it to line up with the case-front :)

This is the sort of thing you should be seeing, David, and as Simon said you may have to open up the hardware tree on the left to be able to select the memory.

No rude answers...why cant I get a screenshot like this...I can get one of speedtests ect but this one will not work...could it be because I have the stand alone versionof SIW perhaps ?

I've got the stand alone version too, David.  You can take a screenshot of anything by keying Alt+PrintScr, which will copy the active window to your clipboard.  You then need to open an image editor, such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or the built in Paint facility in Start > All Programs > Accessories.  Paste the image in, save it as a jpeg, gif, or png, then when you make a post on here, use the Additional Options, browse to the saved image, and select it to attach to the post.
