Somebody posted recently re. starting the computer x% faster with reference to msconfig etc. etc.
Darned if I can find this posting. Anyone help pls?

Rik

Can you expand a little on what you're looking for? There have been a few posts recently about using MSConfig or Services to kill off unwanted baggage.

I think it referred to the removal of services in the msconfig utility such as windows auto update, win messenger and a host of others.  I believe the posting was related to a link hence I can't find it.
Sorry to be a nuisance.

No Rik, sorry!  I'll keep checking recent posts and await the bell to ring!!

Are you just looking to speed up the boot?

If so, start MSConfig, go to services, check 'hide all MS', then weed all the stuff you don't need from what's left. Check the startup tab and see what you don't need in that list.

Getting close to subject.  The poster/link tho. referred to disabling MS bits and bobs and whether or not there'd be any detrimental effect in doing so.
fwiw I periodically use msconfig start up and disable all with the exception of nod32 & adaware working on the assumption that if a prog wants something from the list it will go get it!!
MS loads absolutely tons of stuff at boot up, I reckon that only a quarter of it is really needed.
The link referred to disabling some of this cr*p.
Many thanks for your replies Rik

I haven't spotted it with a search, but I may be looking for the wrong thing, of course. Does Jester's link help?
