I have a problem.... somewhere.

hi all..

Yes its that time of year again  :D

Ok, to be on a serious note, When someone picks up the phone or puts it down i get disconnected and my sync drops.

Sync only drops by about 1000 when someone picks up but drops really low. around 2000kbps when someone hangs up!

Would you say this is a problem with the phone?

Both loss happened when the phone got picked up and put down.

First thing I'd do is change the filter, Paul, if that doesn't work change the phone.

the filter is built into the faceplate, its a new one fitted by bt (£169 for a faceplate  :mad:)

I dont have one that fits into the RJ11 socket on the faceplate  ???

You will have to bare with me today, i've had a headache for a week and half and its got to the stage where i can't think straight no more :(

Surely you have two sockets on the faceplate, Paul, one for the phone, one for the router. The phone one should be a standard BT socket, the router one an RJ11?

opps, didnt know you could use the normal one on these faceplates lol..

Another problem, the RJ11 i use is quite thick (like me today) the thick plastic around the plug stops it from being pushed fully into the filter i have (it doesnt click)  ???

It sounds like it might have a RJ45 connector, Paul. These do fit into the BT faceplate, AFAIK. I don't think that would be causing this issue, though. :(

Nah its a RJ11 but around the top half it has alot of plastic/rubber. This is stopping it from being fully pushed in (when it clicks) it pushes in fine in the wall socket.

Looks like i will just have to try a different phone and if that does it again then its a filter problem.

Ah. Try pulling the rubber back a bit before you push it in the socket.

right. i've tried everything. Now i'm knackered and got an even worse headache :(

In the end, its like this..

RJ11 goes to the RJ11 socket on the wall socket. That part is fine.

Phone goes straight into the phone socket on the faceplate.. doesn't disconnect me and phone is clear.

Plug the splitter in for the sky boxes and plug the phone into the spare socket on the splitter.. disconnects me and line is noisy.

Plug a filter into the phone socket on the faceplate, plug the splitter for the sky boxes and the phone into the filter. disconnects me and line is noisy.

So to stop this problem, i have to leave the sky boxes disconnected. which is breaking there contract..

BTW, each sky box extension has filters on the other ends aswell.

So what do i do?

Contact Sky and ask them to change the boxes? It's not the first time I've heard of an issue with Sky boxes putting noise on the line, their modems are cheap, but not cheerful. BT aren't going to do anything, as it's clearly an equipment fault on your side of the master socket.

Other than that, the only option would be to cancel multi-room and disconnect the boxes from the line.

You could possibly try another filter in the existing filter where the Sky Receivers are connected, other than that, what Rik says. ;)

I'll give them an option... replace the boxes for free or let me keep the the lines disconnected.

I'm sure they will chose the 2nd option as its cheaper for them.

i do that already In.

sky box's > rj11's > filter's > extension's > splitter > filter > bt socket

Don't be too disappointed if they tell you to pay for a callout or pay full subs on both boxes, Paul. Sky are pretty strong on policing multi-room. :(

No way will they let you keep a multiroom set up disconnected, they are very strict on that one.

Probably as Rik suggests, they will suggest a call out charge, or suggest that you pay 2 subscriptions.

BTW, have you tried disconnecting one Sky Receiver at a time to see what happens?

Thats what i will do tomorrow.
I dont want to cause 2 many drops in one day and BT push my margin up even more :(

OK, if it transpires that it is only one Sky Receiver, you could get another unit from eBay very cheaply.

its more than likely going to be the box downstairs causing the problem. The one upstairs is the newer model and the one down stairs is years old and abit clunky.

i might buy a sky+ box for upstairs and put the new model downstairs. see if that helps.

you dont have to pay an extra tenner a month for sky+ now do you?
