i might buy a sky+ box for upstairs and put the new model downstairs. see if that helps.

You do need an additional cable from the dish/LNB to access the facilities of Sky +, that is assuming that you already have a quad LNB.

Don't, Paul, you'll only make yourself miserable. These devices are programmed to recognise the start of a new financial year. ;)

Yeh we have the LNB that takes 4 cables.. I've got normal sky in office upstairs so they will just replace that box or the other box wont they with a sky+ box?

Not with you, Paul?

Just what In said Rik about Sky+.

I already have sky digital in 2 rooms, if i bought a sky + box they will just replace the box in the room of my choice right? no extra cables or anything is needed?

Not sure, I don't subscribe to Sky, I just know how it works.

They will almost certainly make a charge for the additional cable, and possibly the upgraded Sky + Receiver.

Best option is to threaten to cancel, they will put you through to cancellation department, they may be more flexible. ;)

An extra cable is required to use the full facilities of Sky+

So you have 2 cables for one box? is that for the dual tuner?

If you don't have Sky+ already in the room, then there will be an extra cable run required. As In says, if you are out of contract, a threat to cancel may work, but be prepared to follow it through, they've got wise to people using this to get a deal, and sometimes they don't play ball.

The second cable is for the second tuner in a Sky+ box.

I wonder whether one of those KY RF1 filters  http://www.ky-filters.com/filters.htm might be ideal in this situation. I thought the split faceplate solved the extension noise problem obviously not :)
