I am puzzled.(doesn't take much)just tried playing a CD from my media player and the sound is awful.very echo like.went to audio manager and cant balance it up at all.I doubt if it had anything to do with it  but had problems downloading the pdf creator the other day and the message which kept scrolling across has appeared again this being windows configures smartsound plug ins ?any ideas anyone have done all the basic check from checking it see that speakers etc and checked all the levels. Creative sound system when I run the demo is perfect so it has to do with the windows side of it any suggestions ...don't be rude,I have a wife for that

Have you got two sources playing at the same time, David? I'd try turning down or muting a channel at a time to see if it helps (also make sure that your master volume is not see too high).

Can you do a system restore to before you went looking for PDF Creator, have you done a virus sweep?

Baz

have you got some software that controls your audio instead of windows. It may have some effect like 'live' or 'arena' or the like.

may have got adjusted by accident

David

Yes tried this, just carried system restore and my whole desktop has changed and its very weird, no colour and toolbars missing, did a virus scan came up clean some thing is not right will try sounds and then attempt to undo this restore  ???

Rik

Can you do a malware scan, David? Something odd is going on - as I use PDF Craetor, I'm reasonably sure it's not that. Have you checked in Device Manager to see if anything is being flagged against the sound card?

Undo the restore, David, then check for virus/malware. Something is messing with your machine.

I'm on my laptop Rick and undone the restore now kaspersky is showing npqtplugin4dll suspicious violation so am doing a full scan to see what is going on, I have managed to get my desktop back and also all my programmes, would you expect Kaspersky to pick up any malware .

I am thinking the other day when my adviser turned amber and red maybe its me but Iwont allow this action above as I don't know what it relates to  :-\

title kaspersky is integrity violation

I think you have Quicktime installed, David:

"This component is part of  Quick Time

Component Name: npqtplugin4.dll

Description of : A free media player that serves all platforms. Its new version enables wireless sharing of media content and supports iTunes 4.5.

Recommendation for :
N/A

Trusted: Yes
Trojan: No
Chronic: No
Adware: No
Carrier: No
Browser Hijacker: No
Dialer: No
Commercial Keylogger: No
Remote Administration Tool: No
Suspected: No

Company Name: Apple"

I don't know Kaqspersky, but I would expect it to pick up anything that's in any way iffy. Given Quicktime is a media player and you're having problems with your sound, I wonder whether QT is simultaneously playing CDs - it does like to grab the function for itself. Try playing a CD and then opening Task Manager to see if QT has fired up.

I really can't explain what's happened, David. I'm puzzled by the issues you had trying to download PDF Creator, and I just wonder whether you picked something up then. From the link I gave you, I just clicked the download link, then selected the program file. Can you remember what you had clicked when you got the odd message?

I don't know if it was then Rik,The link you sent over downloaded without a hitch. It was the first one which I went on that seemed to cause problems.(not your link),it could be a coincidence and m not panicking.
just watching what is going on,full system scan in operation as I speak,so far so good,Some  how I the first link was not right as within seconds a banner came down telling me I had won something, this didn't  feel right and not a site which would come from you, then I kept getting a box with the message about smart sound plug ins went haywire and I could not stop them.Im looking at the pc  and nothing found yet

Do you remember what the link was, David? Was it related to Sonicfire Pro?

As explained  above Rick I couldn't comprehend what was going on but it didn't load as usual.didn't understand what smart sound plug ins were in relation to this programme.

Ref quicktime I have had that on there for some time and never had a problem have carried out all the checks as Im used to the odd hiccup when media stuff either mutes or misbehaves...so far its green all the way and the colour has returned to my pc

Regarding your problem with Windows Media Player, it sounds very much like you've got one of the effects switched on.

Go to View > Enhancements, where you'll find various settings. Make sure everything is normal/disabled/etc.

David

Thanks Sebby its not allowing at the moment will see in a while..after this scan   ???

Its hard to recall Rik but the name is very familiar.this sounds very much a Davids error, if you recall I got a little confused with the links there,.
My desktop is scanning and mouse and keyboard are recovering by the looks of things.its just under 3/4 through and nothing found very odd  ???

No Rik I was on a different one I think,as I said it didn't taste right if thats the right term, hence I  posted for more help.but my superviser turned a deeper red than a nun in a changing room of a rugby club. The scan is nerly finished and it is strange how the system is getting back tool bars have returned and grey has gone we are back to nearly normal....no reports or red lights on here at present.???

Hopefully you're in the clear, then, David. Check Sebby's suggestion about effects once everything is OK.
