I use a Logitech pro 9000, 2mp carl zeiss lens, works in near blackness great picture quality and you don't need drivers or software as its uvc compliant so you can use what capture software you want or just use windows  :) about £44 from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000T5GMJE?ie=UTF8&tag=ny-21

Does windows 2000 not have uvc drivers built in then? It needs no drivers its just plug and play. Heres a video taken with it on you tube by some random guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgPNqKjwJek&feature=related

Afraid not, but the camera is used and modified (casing wise) by astronomers to use with telescopes so if its great for night time telescope usage it would follow it will not have issue with daytime outside usage with plenty of light, hope that helps.
http://ghonis2.ho8.com/Pro9000mod4.html this link shows how they modded the pro 9000 and the results they got with it which may help you

Just set mine up and took a photo out the window for you. This any help? Pouring with rain and very dull today... and yes, the lawn is mostly moss instead of grass these days! ::)

g7pkf

Thanks for that looks good. the focus is a little scewy but i suppose that is as it focused on the window frame?

thank you

Arthix

Well theres another without the window and the focus still looks a little off *shrug*.

Rik

I think most webcams are optimised for fairly close shots, tbh.

Looks a lot better than my camera though, think rik's right unless i spend about £130 for a proper o/s webcam its probarly te best i am going to get.

Rik

I think so, Dean. I know a BBC studio which has just what you need though...  >:D

Yes annoyingly i have been charged with kitting out to colo datacentres in docklands. part of the remit is to install a full cctv system in both. been trying today to get a sample camera they are not playing ball  :bawl: :bawl:

had a look at those images again and the second one does show a vast improvement in focus.

Rik

Way back, when I was an exhibitions officer for the Post Office, if there was something we wanted, we just had it installed on a major exhibition project. Happy days. :)

Dean spends money fast enough as it is.

Now he's just spent £50 on a webcam and usb extension lead.

Says it's for my security (yeh right)

have you lot no shame.

But seriously thanks I just hope it's as good as it looks.

I even had to wash up last night.

Trouble is i proberly deserved it i have spent rather a lot lately.

But i am still impressed with the pictures for a standard web cam.

Did it the cheap way so expect it to arrive in about 10 days. not in a big rush and amazon wanted £10 to get it here by tommorrow.

Rik

You did it the cheap way, Dean? Have I taught you nothing!! ;D

well they said delivery in 6-10 days and yesterday they shipped it and we all know amazon is just up the road from us so am expecting it tuesday or wed.

i never pay the extra on amazon always the cheapest way and i always seem to be lucky and get it in 2-3 working days.
