Thanks, Rik. The only program that I have set to automatically update is NOD32 the others I do manually and generally rely on various forums to tell me.

it alerts you to 1000's of program updates available, advises when software needs updating or reaches end of life. It allows you to update some apps from within the application, and it's all from one central location so no having to keep an eye on software updates anymore, therefore it saves you lots and lots of time

I realise that, So, and in that sense alone I'm not bothered. It's the unease about knowing how the number was obtained (or where, maybe). I know that the full card number, plus expiry date and security code was used. I'm pretty careful, watch out for security before I enter any information, check the certificate etc, so I'm left feeling it's a deliberate leak at a merchant - and that's not a happy feeling. As the card has only ever been used online or over the phone, I've been reviewing transactions and wondering...

Tbh, I just tend to keep an eye on www.filehippo.com - that shows the latest updates for just about everything.

The new Version of kaspersky internet security with its HIPS program now has a built in version of this type of program, and will move a program to its restricted zone if its out of date of under threat, it also points you to the updates to sort it out, its in technical release at this time, but its handy to have built in
