Contention rate

hi there i am thinking about going over to idnet as i have heared good things about it i am on a really sh*t ips at the moment virgin please for your own sake dont go on it well i am going for the home supermax and i am just wondering what the Contention rate is because it says n/a and it can not be n/a because it has to have a Contention rate

the reasons i would like to no is i am a hard core gamer and need a strong and stable connection with a low ping

Of course, what BT may do is another issue.

No it doesn't. On fixed speed connections BT allow a maximum number of users to compete for a given bandwidth- 50 for 50:1, 20 for 20:1, right down to 1:1 if you've got the money. This doesn't apply to IPStream Max, in effect it's a free-for-all, there's no maximum number of users/bandwidth block.

This is why if (like me) you're on a fairly busy exchange your speeds can vary from well over 6,000Kbps when it's quiet to under 1,000Kbps when it's busy. Some lucky people are on quiet exchanges and get over 6,000Kbps most of the time.

This has little to do with pings- most people find IDNet to be a good ISP for gaming. I can't comment from experience because I'm not interested in gaming.
