Still terrible speeds

My speeds appeared to be ok about 3 days ago, then yesterday and today the speeds have returned to being unbelievably slow, as they were a few weeks ago.

This speed test gives 160 kbit/sec

Everything says good on idnet's network status page.

Unfortunately BT's speed test seems overloaded right now and is just giving the Test Error message after waiting a few minutes.

Is anyone else experiencing these low speeds of only about 3x the speed of an old 56k modem? I have spoken to IDnet support and they said my DSLAM is at only 20% load with no issues. Huh...

I've got a feeling it could be your profile that's to blame, which could be a sign of instability (even if you don't realise).

Keep persevering at the BT speed test, then we can see for certain.

I would argue that anything less than 2000 kbit shouldn't be marketed as broadband!

Back to my issue, BT's speedtest is still not working at midnight, geez will they ever fix this thing? My speeds are still 15K/s surely if it was a contention issue it would have picked up by this time of night?

To be honest I think my connection is so slow the speed test download is timing out and I am seeing a generic error message. After about 5 minutes it says either :

"Test Error"
"Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly, but if this problem persists raise the issue with your service provider."
(In IE)

"Test Error"
"Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly."
(In Safari)

In that case I'd give IDNet a call as they can confirm your profile. There's nothing else obvious that I can think of.

Unfortunately, BT set the goal posts at 400k.

    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
    Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6649 kbps

there`s fek all wrong with bt speedtester, did this at 09.35am today

as long as you have the latest java and use IE for testing, I never had issue with it really Sebby, but I always tested at quieter times of day

Its odd how that works out Sebby I wonder if people are using the latest java of maybe their security interferes with it

I think it is more likely that there is regional test servers (or at least at the major points such as Illford, Edinburgh etc) and that certain servers are overloaded.

That probably true Lance, I doubt BT put a lot of resources behind their speed tester

what gets my goat big time is adslmax on TB gloating over his bbxmax speedtests which he is running at about 4am in the day !! HELLO.........Obsessive Compulsive Disorder anybody !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the bull he posts " hey I got 85,100 kps on an 8MB package, look at me. Yeah we are looking at you and thinking "what a clot ! "

Overall accuracy iro speedtests is an uncontestable issue, If I use TB, DSLZONE UK and the BT Speedtester, Im always somewhere between 6500k - 7000k and what that tells me is that all is just dandy, and I can live with that.

The one that many people have pegged here to their signatures, is always well out, tried it this morning and it said I was running at 15mb download  and that was the maidenhead server, that test is wildly inaccurate
