I'm afraid I don't have posting rights (to create a new topic) in the Announcements forum so I figured that Improvements was the next best fit.

Oops. Seems like a bit of an oversight to me  :-[

However, personally, I would think that the most appropriate place for Simon to place his service status announcements is on the Network Status page of the main IDNet site rather than anywhere on here. Certainly, it's the first place I would look.

It does contain a message about Wednesday's abortive attempt at fixing the problem, but isn't up to date with regard to tonight's retry.

... and I agree with MoHux ... who's moaning? Asking questions is not the same as moaning.

Maybe a mod should give Simon the rights!?

I would agree that prehaps the first place most users would look is on the status page, but as a user of the forum i am pleased that these annoucements are also posted here.

This post reflects my own views, opinions and experience, not those of IDNet.

Nerval

Given that the subtitle of the Announcements forum is:
IDNet service related and board announcements will be posted here., that would seem to be the right place.  I must admit though that it's a bit of a problem if Simon can't post there.
Presumably Scott can sort this out if asked.

BassoProfundo

Hmmm. Well, I would suggest that the one place where service status announcements really should appear is on IDNet's official site. If they appear here too, then so much the better.

However, I for one would prefer that Simon is left free to do his job rather than having to spend time posting the same information multiple times.

So maybe it should be the job of the Forum Admin to copy official service status announcements into the Announcements forum?

Just a thought :)

Nerval

Yes Basso
My comment was from a selfish point of view in that I never go to the front page.

But if somebody from IDNet told one of the mods about these things, it shouldn't be too arduous for them to post it.

I have noticed that Simon looks at the forums almost as often as I do, so he wouldn't be going too far out of his way to post it himself though.

The main thing is that the information should be official and that it should be made public as soon as possible.........(that's two things - I can feel myself going into the Spanish Inquisition sketch)

BassoProfundo

I guess the very best thing would be to publish service status announcements via an RSS feed ;) That'd be cool.

Nerval

Exit to Google to look up "RSS Feed"  :out:

As for 'quandam', there's a lot of sense in his last two posts.  Unfortunately my friend, you labour the point always, and stir up the very people you are warning against!  ::)  Not necessary.  :)

:coffee:

MoHux

Thanks for your praise and also thanks for your criticism. I can assure you that stirring up the people I am warning against is not my intention.

However, thanks for your support (to a point!) and I will definitely take your other comments on board.

Well done M8, if I could go back and edit this late in the day, I'd change my wording to "Scott and Adam"
Have this in consolation. :banana2:

MoHux

Thank you Adam! ........ and Simon.  I am sure we will ALL find it useful.  :)
