is anyone having any probs with lag in games. my connection has been getting worse, at times it has been off for hours. ping is up and down etc normally it is stable at around 50 ms. any ideas anyone, as this lag is very frustrating.

Rik

I'm not a gamer, but I've not noticed any ping issues. Download Ping Graph and run it for several hours, maybe 24.

Do you know the ip of the server you are trying to play on?

I'd recommend you also take a look at this thread. You should let support know, and preferably provide some data (such as tracerts). :)

anz1066

thanks for the replies, i`m not sure Idnet is to blame for the intermittent lag. it seems to be related to one server, but not 100% sure. my ping is stable at 50 avg and i get the lag every so often.

Sebby

I'd still be inclined to let IDNet know and provide them with some information as, even if it's not to do with them, they may be able to change the routing, for example. :)

anz1066

here is a trace to the server we rent. we have tried turning PB off, changed various settings in the server, and various other methods.

not a lot of difference, i am in Scotland. my ping is fine, and when it spikes high, the oing remains low.

Rik

I'm interleaved, btw. So is my line. ;)

And for me (interleaved):

over a maximum of 30 hops:

anz1066

where abouts do i find if i`m interleaved ?

Sebby

What router do you have?

anz1066

Sebby

IIRC, open a command prompt, type telnet 192.168.1.254 and hit enter. Login, then type adsl info.

I might have forgotten part of it, though.

anz1066

wouldn`t let me log in, despite copying and pasting my details  ???

Sebby

I wouldn't copy and paste, type them manually. :)

anz1066

same error, after manually typing in. my login details have not been changed. still have the activation email with them in.

as these lag spikes appear every 1 minute, i`m assuming that something is scanning or similar?

zebrum

sounds to me you've lost your router's account details. First look on the router label, if its not on that then try googling "default password THOMSON ST780". But before all that try admin / admin ;-)

As Zebrum says, it's the router login you need, not the IDNet one. Failign which, give support a ring, they will be able to tell you if you are interleaved.

thanks zebrum, got in after a search, i emailed support also. i will keep you guys updated about my ping, after i have sent a ping trace to support.

thanks for the support guys

Sebby

NP. Let us know how you get on. :)

anz1066

just an update, it seems everything is fine at the Idnet end. still get lag every minute or so on our server.
if i find a solution i will post it here.
thanks everyone  ;D

Sebby

Is it just one server?

TheMonkey

sorry to jump in and i'm not sure how helpful my advice will be but have you forwarded your ports for the game, the same way you would with torrents.

I had call of duty running through a specific port and had no problems with lag.

Just a thought as i had to reset my router the other day and haven't had time to forward my ports again and i noticed a bit of lag as the game gets going.

just a thought

your first hop seems to be very high, probably the one that is causing the lag.

Sebby

IIRC, that's normal for SpeedTouch routers.

Rik

It is, as I found out when I thought exactly the same thing. :)
