Odd some things are not working and time is wrong.

Strange thing,just noticed that things tha somethings have stopped responding..sat lite isn't responding when I hit the icon,wordpad,same I havnt tries anything else yet.The only clue I have is yesterday I noticed the date and time were wrong on my desktop.
Date sown was jan 1 cant remember the year may have been 2000 not sure as I just corrected it any thoughts,pc is running fine nothing outwardly which I have noticed ?

Sorry,Matty was showing me a toy car,what I meant to type was stat lite.
This was on here yesterday as I tried to use notepad and didn't bother to investigate when it didn't respond and hasn't changed today.
The odd things is that I tried the state lite yesterday,nothing and when I booted up this morning it appeared on th desktop.I don't think is has anything to do with this programme .The Pc did stick when turning it of.

When the button was pushed there was a stop/start/stop/start.whirling sound from the pc and had to shut it down by holding in the power button.......this is more likely the villain and has affected the running.although everything seems fine otherwise

Could be the Motherboard battery going down?

Yes everything is bowling along fine no problem..the only pain has proved to be the photsuite this has been failing to close a lot and when I get around to it was going to uninstall and then reinstall,keep getting.This programme is not responding click.......

I don't know if this could be the bugbear I havnt thought about this only that I keep meaning to reinstall.?

What is NTP ? I set clock via the pc controls panel

NTP is network time protocol, you will find more information in wiki. In essence its a way of transmitting time over a network. windows can synchronise its time over the internet via a time server, you can also set your router to look for an sntp server, i.e everything is at the same time and you dont have to set it up manually

Get a copy of TimeSync (free) from http://www.karenware.com/powertools/powertools.asp, David. Put it on each machine and it will keep them all perfectly adjusted.

The shutdown problem could be a software clash. Have you done a sweep for malware/viruses recently? Particularly since installing stat lite (is this Routerstats Lite, in which case have you altered it to look for the 2700 rather than the Netgear?).

Did a full scan last week Rik but can do one now....I have not changed the router for this new router,didnt realise I had to,to be honest

In that case, Statslite is trying to talk to the Netgear and not finding it. You need to change the setup to point to the 2700.

Enter:

http://home/xslt?PAGE=B02&THISPAGE=B01&NEXTPAGE=B02

as the URL to router stats page, uncheck the login box.

If the OS isn't configured to use NTP then it will use the time and date from the CMOS. If the battery dies it loses its "memory" and when you boot up it will default the time and date to a factory state.
There may be more than one issue here?

Indeed. I've seen this happen several times, and the time only corrects itself when Windows syncs with the time server.

when the clock starts going wrong i,d put my money on bios battery going down as TED said earlier, seen this several times before

computers rarely stop dead when this happens, they work ok one time then next phut ,then ok again and so on,with the phuts getting more often than the ok's.

Well after a few checks and even removing some programmes I managed to get everything working fine,It even crossed my mind that this 2 wire may be conflicting...Ks have been fine....anyway every time I ceased protection things were fine,turn it back on and the problems returned did not uninstall kaspersy just left it off but it has happened again this morning so I think I have identified it enough.to take that off,have to check the lap top to remind myself what is on there and use that..I think It is AVG,site advisor and Defender.

Wanted to double check before taking it off.could be one of their updates,but it looks like I have identified it.

If your new modem gives out a different subnet than the old one it may be that your firewall has its knickers in a knot as i doesn't recognise the new subnet as "local" or "trusted".
