Setting up IDNet broadband

Got the confirmation email today and it mentions I need to input the static IP address and DNS.

Is this absolutely necessary? As it means changing other settings on my network. Would I lose anything by just inputting the login name and password?

No you dont need to it should say in your customer account login on the idnet portal "It is recommended that you configure your router to pick up its IP address automatically from the network unless you have been assigned multiple IP addresses."  Just put in ya new username and password router should do the rest.

It isn't recommended in the broadband settings in the customer login and i dont use it. by changing your username and password will not change any other settings it will just reconfigure your broadband connection setting to idnets.

It's recommended to let your router pick up the IP and DNS, so that it will always pick up the right ones and you won't ever have to bother changing them

As steve says, just change your user login and password.

I changed them both before I turned the computer off on the night before changeover, and the next morning when I switched on,  it logged me in, found the new IP and DNS, and was up and running seamlessly.

It gives you them so you can set them manually if you want/have to, that's all.
Just ignore them.

As the others have said, it isn't really. However, depending on your router, don't forget to backup the settings once you have logged on with the new username/password.

Nope, that is all that I changed earlier today, rebooted my modem router...sorted...
