vitriol

woke up this morning and decided to check email before going to work.

no internet connection, logged into router and chap authentication had failed.  Unplugged microfilter from wall, waited 10 seconds, plugged back in, connected straight back up no problems.....weird.

sync 8128/448

speedtest result was as usual 6.9

pings were ok.

strange stuff....

Rik

Stale session from the sound of it. BT had broken the PPP session but locally thought you were still connected.

Yep, that's certainly what it sounds like.

Just thought I'd mention, rebooted my router this morning because for some strange reason yesterday tea time I got disconnected twice and ended up with a lower sync than usual.  However once rebooted it took me about ten minutes to get authentication.  Speed had gone back up though.

Sebby

Good to hear. There's usually a lot less noise around in the day time, hence the sync is likely to be higher. At night, the SNRM is going to drop a bit, and that's only a problem if it drops so much that it causes a re-sync. Of course, you can force a re-sync the next day, but you'll be going round in circles. :)

shazzy

Only problem is the past few days I've been disconnected a lot for whatever reason.  Usually I have a rock solid connection and have had for months.  Strange stuffs

Do you know when your exchange is scheduled for 21CN or WBC? It sounds like it might be imminent.

My exchange, is so bad, I'm not due for 21CN until Q2 of 2009. Nothing is available at all:

Rik

I don't go over until a year after you. :)

I didn't realise how big my exchange is until today, serving over 25,000 residential properties. Perhaps that's why WBC is happening at the end of this month, and the 21CN PSTN swtichover in Q4 of this year. I was having quite a few re-syncs early this month, which is quite uncommon, but it's settled down now.

Rik

We'll let you be our test bed, then, Sebby. :) We get everything late here - even though we have a RAS.

As i was pulling out of the cul-de-sac i live down yesterday, 2 openreach vans turned into it. I prayed they didn't interrupt my connection and fortunately they didn't!

You don't think they would have the consideration to do it while you're out, do you?   ;D
