I signed up to ID Net 11 days ago & my download speeds have been almost a constant 120 ish kb. My upload speeds are over 300 kb. I've been in touch several times with Simon at ID Net & have done the BT Speeds Tests, unplugged all other phones etc on my line, utilised my hammer, prayed ... Yesterday morning at 6.00 for a couple of hours the speed was suddenly 2.8 Meg then back to the slow speeds as before. This was 10 days after my signing up, the end of the training period.  I've emailed Simon again but does anyone have any ideas as to what may be going on please?

Check your exchange on here to see if the VPs are set to Red.  This may be the problem.  If so, you may need to wait for BT  to complete their work before you get normal speeds.

Thanks, the VP for my exchange is indeed red with an ETA fix of 30/11/06.

My exchange is also red and i too have suffered a decrease in speeds over the last few weeks.
This is becoming a common complaint.

Dont hold your breath waiting for BT to sort their VP out, my exchange has been showing Red for the last 2 months at least and all they do is keep moving the fix date. Unfortunately I upgraded to Max DSL this morning from a fixed ! mb line that was consistently giving me 950- 980 kbps speed. Now I`m showing connection with Max as 2034kbps downstream but my speed kicks off at about 480kbps and quickly drops to about 9 kbps - dial up would be faster. Spoke to our lady Miriam this morning and she says to give it a couple of days and then if it doesnt get any better she`ll regrade me back to 1Mb IPStream. Really suprised as my router has stayed connected all morning at 2034kbps with a Noise Margin ranging from 3db to 6db (it was 14-17db on std 1Mb

sobranie

Exchange has been red since early October.
Here's my stats;

Down            Up
8128            448

Attenuation
8db               2.5db

Noise margin
18db             20db

D/l a torrent @ over 600k last night too!!

So,exchange is red but doesn't seem to affect me in the slightest. Mate next door has similar figs on the dreaded f2s (other than the torrent d/l of course which came in @ around 6k.

My local exchange is now on 'green status' & for 2 days running my internet speed has been a constant 2.7 ish Meg. What a contrast to the 90 kb speeds I had for weeks & I'm relieved the problem was not of my doing.
