As I type this - the FF download page has gone from V2 - to cut down - to unavailable. I'm guessing the update for FF3 final is now. Stand by your beds - I'm aiming to be DL No 1

Edit: Scratch that - it came back still offering V2 or V3 RC3.

Wonder how long until I get fed up hitting "Refresh"?

Well I got fed up waiting for Mozilla to fix their "technical issues" and downloaded FF3 form here-

Of course after I installed it most of my add-ons failed. I hacked "Mr Tech Local Install" add-on and then used it's "make all compatible" function.

If you want to participate in Download Day then I'd suggest that
a) Wait for the links on the websites to work as I'm led to believe that a download from the link above won't count
b) If you're not keen on hacking your extensions wait a while for the extension writers to catch up before installing FF3.

Well - after 20 minutes of refresh - FF3 just downloaded from the official download - I must be in the top 10 first

Now - do I go ahead and install it lol.

LOL - Immediately after posting the message - I did. The only addons that I use and don't work are fasterfox (which I guess is somewhat redundant now anyway) - and my theme - arghhhh - I love that Noia Extreme theme.

Not to be outdone, and positively hating the default theme, I found something a little more pleasing on my eye to keep me going until I find another that I love (or Noia is updated).

And I don't know if it's the rose tinteds - but images look a little more vibrant, too.

Other than that - first impressions (sort of - I had FF3 RC forced upon me in Ubuntu, and installed one of the later RCs on PC2 anyway) - well, it's firefox. 'nuff said

Oddly - although the register article talks about FF fanboys - it reads very much like an Opera fanboy article.

I have to say, I have nothing against Opera. I tried it - and I didn't like it, but I'm not going to criticise others who may.

What does get my goat, is that The Register isn't what it used to be. I remember the days when you could rely (albeit if you searched) on objective information, which sadly, seems to be leaving them.

I've only just remembered about this FF3, and it looks like they're still having issues as the built in updater is having problems getting anything. I want FF3

Me too. I'd been using the trunk builds for FF3 on my old laptop (before I got it replaced) so nothing came as a surprise to me.

It may be my imagination but pages do seem to be loading faster...

I think I read on one of the Mozilla forums that the autoupdater won't work for a few days yet. If you want FF3 try downloading from the link http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/?p=downloadday

It's probably just best to hang on for a couple of days. It was a ridiculous idea anyway, trying to get everyone to download it at the same time, and it's now become as embarrassing for them as T5 was to British Airways.

I noticed that too, all I did was edit the install.rdf file to reflect FF3, for the rest you'll have to wait for the author to update!

Since this is a new record that they are trying to set, rather than an existing record to beat, as long as they have a lot of capacity then they are good.

Now, if it all goes tits up after the first couple of hundred downloads, then they have a problem.

The odd thing is, the buttons etc are very slightly oversized, so they go outside of the boundaries of the toolbar by just 3 or 4 pixels - but I actually quite like that. It adds a little character.
