quick question.........just had the battery low message on my wireless mousey, was getting sick of it popping up what seemed like after a very short time, even after changing to re-charable batteries, so dug out my mouse I used before this one and plugged it in.

question is..the older one was a USB with a PS/2 connector on, which is the way I had to use it on my last system, what would be best to use now, USB or good old PS/2.


its in USB at the moment but found I can still use the wireless too. getting spoilt

PS/2 is generally better, Baz, as that will definitely be seen at boot time.

Not sure if there's any deeply technical reasons why PS/2 is better or worse than USB, but mine is in USB mode, simply because the adapter made the connection to the PS/2 port less secure.  Guess it depends on whether you have enough spare USB ports.

Indeed. For most people it doesn't matter too much for the mouse, but if you use Acronis TI, then it can be a pain if the mouse is not recognised.

both good points. The adapter is quite bulky Simon.

as  a follow on to that then, would it make any difference into a front USB port

None at all, just make sure the cable doesn't foul anything. Originally, they did mice with PS/2 connectors and a USB adaptor - they were much better.
