I don't seem able to to view an email in the chosen font and size as I compose it. Seems to be always in 10pt Times (I think) irrespective of what I select. I've sent an email to myself via a second IDNet address and it IS in the chosen font and size when received. I'm sure that I used to be able to view an email in any chosen font when composing with XP on my previous computer, I imagine that I'm not adjusting some setting other than the font setting. Help please.

Simon

I don't use Windows Mail in Vista, Noreen, but I'm assuming you have gone into Options > Compose and adjusted to the desired font?

Hi Noreen

Once Windows Mail is open, click on Tools - options - compose. You'll see right at the top you can set the default font.  :)

Edit: Simon bet me to it  :bawl:

As stated in my initial post, I select the required font and size but it doesn't show while I'm composing the email although the recipient can see it. There must be another setting somewhere. ???

edit: I always use Plain Text and it seems that I can only VIEW the selected font if I use HTML although it sends in the selected font. Weird!

Rik

Obviously, I'm guessing wildly, Noreen, but I wonder if there's a display option somewhere, in addition to the compose option?

I don't know if or what difference there is between Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail, but it works 100% in Windows Live Mail. :thumb:

It sounds to me like it might be because you've got the default mail format set to plain text. If you have a look in the options, you'll find you can change this to either rich text or HTML.

Noreen

It seems that the answer is to always use HTML although I'd always understood that it was more practical and safer to use Plain Text. It does seem daft to me to not be able to view the actual appearance of what I'm composing.

Sebby

I thought that was the problem. Try rich text, Noreen. It's sort of the best of both worlds. :)

You're right, Sebby, see my edit above. I don't remember this happening with XP.

Sebby

It would have done, Noreen - you can't use a font with plain text. :)

Rik

That must make messages hard to read. ;D :out:

Let me re-phrase that: you can't define a font. ;D

Noreen

Thanks All for your help. There is only an option to use HTML or Plain Text so I'll use the former but I'll still set it to receive in Plain Text.

Sebby

You should be okay with HTML, Noreen, but if you're worried, stick to plain text. Vista Mail disables images, ActiveX, etc, so messages should be safe.
