They do seem to keep coming.  Sea Monkey had one too.

I think Firefox did this once before with an update, but this has been three quite close together, these bugs should have been stopped before release really, things seemed better when Window Snyder was working on security there.  :eyebrow:

Microsoft will be releasing an out of band patch tomorrow. Details-

to address this vulnerability:

I have already run a pre patching backup, no chances taken here  ;)

This is an update patch that people really must apply, this LNK vulnerability is now becoming very serious now that the malware writers have caught on to it. The only real antidote to it is the one applied with the latest version of Hitman Pro.

Hardly the case,a decent AV covers this already and Sophos Labs produced a patch (  http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=21357.0 ) for it.

Not quite correct.
This LNK vulnerability is an operating system flaw/vulnerability exploit that bypasses most types of security software completely. It is not in itself malicious. The AV do not detect the exploit, at best they can only detect the payload delivered by by the exploit, that is why MS are rushing out a system patch. The Sophos Labs patch only addresses one of the two delivery methods.
The only method that has stopped this exploit 100% in our testing has been the AntiExecutables in Returnil RSS 2011 RC1 and Faronics AE. Geswall had had some success against it and DefenseWall has now been updated to stop it.

That's been out for a week. I got that when I installed my new system last Thursday. No wonder it wouldn't update when I checked ;D

Strange, it isn't offering me an update. Or wasn't. I'll have another go :)

{edit} Shockwave player is showing version 11.5.7.609 now  :eek4:

test which version you have Niall http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

If need be just download the new one, shockwave has been that version for quiet a while now.

Niall

I didn't have the adobe updater installed after my new o/s install, so I was just using the shockwave thing. Strange though that the version of shockwave I had was the old one as installed via a prompt on a (safe) website. The firefox plugin checker told me the out of date version was the latest, which is rather disturbing.

Still, I've updated them both now, and installed the Adobe updater program to make things easier. Which reminds me, I haven't reinstalled Elements 8. For shame :D

Glenn

It was release earlier this week, the update blocks the holes that allowed it to be jailbroken.

Ah, it must have just got to it's regular update check today then. I don't think I've charged it more than twice this week as I've been off and not using it much.

Simon

So, does this mean it can no longer be jailbroken?

I presume so, at least for the way Jailbreakme works, they advise not to update past 4.01 http://www.jailbreakme.com/faq.html
