Firefox 7 released, with better memory management of at least 20% or possibly up to 50% reduction in useage, also security update as usual. Each new version will undergo memory shrinkage from now on as well, So 8 should be even better.

I'm looking forward to Firefox 100, Gary. By then, it should be plugging an extra couple of RAM sticks into my machine. ;)

;D It runs as native 64bit on My Mac so it has access to more anyway, but it should make it more stable, this memshrink should help the browser out, I just checked and it is using less and if you actually close a tab....it drops its memory usage shock horror  ;D Version 6 didn't  do that  ::) bet its 7.0.2 in a few days though  ;)

Difficult to tell here, Gary, the memory usage is fluctuating even when no activity is occurring in FF.

Gary

Its quite steady here not going over 257mb at the moment which is better than version 6 which just ate ram for dinner, and pudding, also a late night snack too  ;)

Oh, and two tabs.
Could be to do with how many add ons you use and what ones I guess, but that's a big difference.

Rik

Febe, Cookie Culler, FlagFox, FireFTP and the dictionary.

Flagfox will potentially be more active, as it looks up IP addresses, FireFTP, Cookie Culler and FEBE should all be pretty dormant when not in use.   :dunno:

I would agree, odd maybe its to do with the OS or history settings or just computer spookiness  :dunno:

DarkStar

With two tabs open of which one is a game and six add-ons I'm seeing a steady 190ish here, much improved memory usage  :thumb:

Baz

just trying it now and it seems quicker to me

Oddly I accidentally opened this thread at page 1 and saw Riks post about an update to CCleaner, and sure enough, there's an update. Spooky ;D

Also, I just updated to FF7 and it's changed the font on webpages. Why?

Because the website is coded in an odd way? It certainly hasn't changed the font here (I've just updated my work laptop).
