It's been said before, it's because Mozilla patch vulnerabilities immediately, whereas MS ignore them for as long as they can. :P

That's true Sebby, Internet Explorer 7 Popup Address Bar Spoofing Test unpatched for 572 days :eek4:

SUPERAntiSpyware v4.1 now available. http://www.superantispyware.com/
QuoteInterface and Functionality Changes

* Vista UAC Issues Resolved - You should not be prompted by UAC on Admin or Limited user account under Vista. You cannot install program updates on a Limited Account as this breaks the Admin/Limited paradigm.
* Windows "No Disk" issues resolved - this a Windows error due to it's caching of disk volumes - this no longer should show up for empty CD/DVD driver, flash drives, etc.
* Splash screen can be turned off in Free Edition

Technology Changes

* Resolved rare issues with DDA (Direct Disk Access) and improved compatibility with various NTFS formats
* Resolved rare crash issues with improperly written drivers (mainly spyware) that caused Kernel Direct to fault
* Enhanced detection of rootkits
* Firefox cookie scanning and removal

I've just had a problem with it. I had the previous version installed and when I tried to install the new version it said that I had a previous version and would I like it uninstalled as that was necessary. So I allowed it to uninstall the previous version and then install the new version. Having done that I found that I couldn't open the program from either Start or from within the program folder itself (I'd deleted the desktop icon as I didn't want it). I could only open it from the Notification Tray and I didn't want an icon there. So I uninstalled it, restarted the computer and installed it again. Now it does work, I can open it from Start.

Software houses do like to make us jump through hoops. :(

What I gained from that was that it's probably better to uninstall the previous version yourself. ;D

Ray

Just installed the update on my XP Pro box with no problem, looks like it may be a problem with Vista possibly.  :)

BTW I'm running the free version, are any of you running the paid for version? I've been wondering about getting it.

Yes, Noreen, I am running the paid for Pro version.  :)

Noreen

Do you consider it good value, Ray?

Ray

I think so, Noreen, especially when you look at the comparison list for the 2 products, the Pro version does a lot more than the free one. It's also worth adding the Lifetime subscription option to avoid having to pay to renew your subscription each year. (It's cheaper if you do it at the time of purchase)

I think I would use the free one and get something like counterspy which works really well, thing is Noreen you don't want to many active shields and if you use windows defender it would be worth while turning it off and just using one other app and a on demand scanner, ad Muncher which for £14 for life cleans every ad and flash banner you could wish for and helps in the safety and speed of browsing which I think is worth while as well, you can even use it to scramble your ip address. and it blocks ads in all your programs not just FF or IE but the whole lot, you can even set exceptions.

I tried CounterSpy, Gary, and found the constant pop ups too annoying, and it also took forever to start up on my old PC, so I ditched it after a month.  Latest versions may have improved, of course.

The latest one works quite well, my friend uses it on their machine, i think if you want really tight HIPS security, pop ups are part of the package these days unless you use Norton

I have got Defender turned off as I find it annoying that it makes a Restore Point every time it installs new definitions. At the moment I have free SUPERAntiSpyware and free SpywareBlaster, the former program has never found anything after a scan and of course the latter program just sits in the background. I also use NOD32 v3 and Vista firewall.
