General software updates

I dont have the computer on all the time so havent needed to update that regular and the manual way is just personal from the days when I had McAfee and it used to freeze and not auto uodate so I never knew if it had worked or not.

Might try NOD again and see how it goes. 


and if I remember rightly McAfee used to interupt whatever you were doing to let you know the auto update was happening, put me off. Could be different now.

NOD32 doesn't interrupt when it updates, you just get a small temporary notice above the Notification Area informing you that it's updated. The initial page of NOD32 tells you the date of the latest definitions installed.

Quickbooks 2008 Pro said I needed to install update, program locked out on Saturday morning just in time for me to work out Payrole  Help line is closed over weekend, what am I paying for?

Tried that Rik    Went on to Quickbooks forum and found others had had same problem. Went on to Intuit site and they said that this can happen sometimes when updating data  What is the point of issuing updates if you can not install them? Changed folder name by adding old on the end and turned off virus checker, then uninstalled Quickbooks. Reinstalled Quickbooks and updated all files and it now works, just glad I back up each week so I only have this weeks invoices and payrole to do.
What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon, going in the garden now to relax a bit.    and then tea

My Kaspersky updates up to 5 times a day sometimes!

Given up on Kaspersky again, to many BSOD gone back to Eset smart security3.0.667.0, so far so good and no more klif driver crashes  I really like kaspersky, I had mine set to update every 30mins, but the issues it causes on my system are not worth the grief, the forum is littered with people having BSOD death issues in Vista, Eset runs well with no cpu problems for me either as reported for some. I'll look back in a few months at kaspersky to see if they have mended the issues but I think im have pretty much had it for now, ESS and AdMuncher work great

Lets make fun of Firefox 3 coding instead, its not great that a few days after release it has a critical flaw, the joys of software rushed out for media attention purposes, to be honest the new version should not be suffering the same bugs as the old in my opinion, and people say Microsoft jut re-use old code

I'm sure you're right. I had no problems with v7 on XP SP3, but now I'm running v8.
