Have you compressed Firefox's DLLs, by any chance (e.g. using UPX)?

No, Sebby, I don't do anything like that at all.  :)

Hmm, strange. The only reason I asked is because doing so would cause that problem. :)

It is, Sebby, I've never had a problem before when I've upgraded by that method.

Yes, I get that problem with Outlook as well, Rik, quite often find it's running slow then when I check in Task Manager there's 2 instances of it running.  ???

Identical, Ray. Never quite sure what triggers it (though updating iTunes seems to until I kill off their COM addin).

sometimes the firefox.exe process hang's around for a bit when the app is closed, I have no idea why. I just kill the process in task manager and that does the job.

I noticed this happening too a while back and learned from someone on here that its best to 'File/Exit' rather than use the  close ' X ' button.

seems to work

Rik

Interesting, Baz. I wonder which way Alt+F4 goes?

FWIW, another Mozilla application - Thunderbird - used to get caught in an endless loop when updating on my PC.  This was tracked down to an incompatibility with Logitech webcam software (QuickCam I believe it was called).  Once the Logitech process was killed off, it all went perfectly   :)

BTW Rik, you almost have a devilish amount of karma   >:D

The correct way to update FireFox by FireFox:
Open FF browser>click tools>options>advanced>update
On this page find "When updates to FireFox are found"
Put a dot in the radio button: "Ask me what I want to do"
You should then get an automatic pop-up notification that a new version is available.

When a new version is available:
Have FF open on your home page, click help>check for updates.
It will then find and install the update, restart FF - finished. Works every time for me, 30secs, minute at the most - and I have a slow connection. :thumb:

PSI has an update:

Note that it's only to include a Spanish language option, so is not necessary.

The update for nod Noreen is because it has a security flaw that could allow a hacker to execute code on a machine, its an important update, I am using it on Vista 64 bit and its working a charm  :thumb: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=228249 see post 18
