I know just what you mean, Glenn. So much software now comes with these kind of 'additions' that you have to read the installation screens very carefully.

Noreen

No additional toolbars with the zip version.

Rik

Nice to know. Often they don't tell you it's there at all. :(

Nero is a prime evil of installing toolbars without consent, even when saying you do not want one, users of Nero 8 and 9 just call the program malware now  :( I wish software developers would actually give you a better more basic install, like ccleaner slim build, as basic as you like with no toolbars whatsoever
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Rik

I'll second that, Gary. Software houses try and force so much junk on us these days that all it achieves, at least here, is that I don't upgrade unless I really have to.

I have nero 7 essentials an oem install, there is an update of 300mb to the lates version but it installs a ton or rubbish I dont want with no option to not install it, you just have to remove it after so I just do not update it, simple that way, I would never touch Nero 8 or 9 or infact Nero at all but since it came with it I'll use it

Rik

I just got their latest 'buy an upgrade' email. :sigh:

Baz

all this talk of nero made me go and look what I havent used for ages.............version 6 :D..everyone used to say that it was THE burning software to have, which it may have been.

I use Ashampoo version 7.11 which i found been given away free in a magazine as a download.Cant fault it at all, better than nero.

Rik

It was once, Baz, I fear it's lost its way rather. :(

Nero is ever so bloated these days. It's gone the same way as Norton. :(

Rik

And you can't say anything worse than that. ;D

Certainly is, Sebby, I used to use Nero but I switched over to Ashampoo Burning Studio a couple of years ago, much better and it does everything that I want, without the bloat.  :thumb:

I know how you feel. At one time, Nero seemed worth it, but not lately. :(

I use freeware - ImgBurn and Burn4free

I also use ImgBurn, which is excellent. Burn4Free is a new one to me, so thanks. :thumb:

Yup, got Ashampoo (stupid name!) Burning Studio on my laptop, and can't fault it.

Nero 7 is ok as I have a "lite" version" so no bloat but seriously that program is so bloated in its present incarnations its ridiculous, it supports my blu-ray drive which is useful but I would never update the damn thing in a million years, Norton 2009 apart from being branded is not bloated now, they did learn.
Nero are a nasty bunch support wise, I purchased Nero 8 for my mate and it just crashed, the trial was fine but of course was not the latest version, they refused a refund after several days and their legal team started emailing me smugly saying they have a 30 day refund but that's for bought software not downloaded which at the time was not clear, for software its at there discretion , I called my credit card company up and got the cash back, sorted things out with my friend then had to use their clean tool to remove the damn thing, never would I ever deal with that company for anything. :rant2:

The Lite version isn't office, though, is it?
