It did Simon, its slower than.....well a very slow thing, but some of the features are good, just need Mozilla to get Firefox 3.1 (3.5 now) to be released

Maybe safer with its tabs being seperate processes so if one crashes it does not take the whole browser down, InPrivate filtering and also InPrivate Browsing are very useful, and having some of the accelerators makes things easier like the maps one, but I would have to say Faster......NO and do I trust its safety.....not sure, Mozilla patch faster but had more security holes than IE Opera and Safari last years, so swings and roundabouts on that, I don't think FF is safer inherently they just patch faster, but I'm sticking with FF anyway. The load times on IE8 are appalling its the slowest of them all with real issues with javascript speed, but to most users that will not matter its a great improvement over IE6 and 7 so your average user will be happy, or IE fans who only use it anyway will definitely feel the benefits.

The final release cannot be used on Windows 7 Glenn, you have to stick with the beta that 7 comes with, but considering you can turn it off in 7 you would think they would try and optimise its speed a little more

I have been runing IE8rc1 for some time along side FF and have now upgraded to IE8 and must admit I love it, far superior to FF. I don't have a problem with loading times and it updates at least as fast as FF and much better than Opera. Are we still dealing with, "If it's Microsoft I wont like it" again. No problems with Java just upgrade to the latest version.

No not at all Den but the reviews on loading and rendering times say it all http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/software/productivity/0,1000001108,39630019-7,00.htm people want their browser to be fast not slow, and IE8 is just that, slow. If it was better than FF I would use it, and the features I like, but its performance is somewhat lacking sadly and thats the general consensus in almost all the reviews I have seen, and from personal experience as well, and my machine is not slow either

and its JavaScript Den, not Sun's Java runtime that's the issue. If it loads that slow with one of the fastest Processor available (stock) that's not good.

Hi

Well I've tried it didn't like it at all and have un-installed it back to IE7, over bloated as usual found it slow and the layout is awful.

I'll stick with FF and wait for 3.5 to come out.

As I have a Mac laptop will again wait for Safari 4, beta tried out but was buggy and crashed on me .

For me, Firefox works best - it fits with the way I do things, and I don't see that changing just yet. Sometimes, I think software houses lose sight of the fact that they produce tools for us - not gadgets.

Thats a bit like Opera browser for me Rik, some of the features of IE8 will be in FF 3.5 (formerly 3.1) and with less bloat, Opera has for me to many gadgets now, with FF I can have a bare minimum and have fast rendering and what extensions suits my browsing habits, I want the choice of what I have in my browser, not to be forced to have it anyway and not be able to slim it down
