Ah, how I miss this. ;)
Apple have their share too Sebby http://voices.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2008/05/apple_patches_40_security_hole_1.html that patched 40 security holes, maybe an umbrella to go with that mac just in case  ;)  :out:
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

You're linking to an article that's almost a year old. ;)

Rik

Maybe it needs patching. ;D

Still a patch though, and critical ones at that, and its only early into 2009 really, Mac's are getting more popular so......   :)

Apple only seem to patch when absolutely necessary, otherwise they are like ostriches, head in the sand, "no one can see me."

I have noticed people think hat Macs are patch proof then do a huge catchup, but hey still are ahead of the game compared with Microsoft, but when you look at the sheer diversity of PC's software wise to Macs its not surprising, I still think i Macs had market share worth hacking they would be a viable target like MS,  nothing is impervious Glenn, Aplle just have more control which is a good thing, and also possibly a bad thing (Iphone apps vanishing) no doubt I love their machines, but for me I cant justify the change, also I am weary of Jobs seeming hatred for Blu-ray my laptop has a blueray drive and I am surprised considering the price of a good quality iMac that they don't have them built in yet considering the screens real estate.

Apples have vulnerabilities, but no where near as many as MS, and it's not necessary to issue patches so quickly because they're not so prone to attack.

Noreen

Not sure if this has already been posted. ;D
New version of SpywareBlaster (4.2) is available. http://majorgeeks.com/SpywareBlaster_d2859.html

Rik

I don't think so, thanks.  :thumb:

Apple have more control over the software as well I guess Sebby which really helps as well, its a solid premise for safer computing

For the nth time after installing windows updates my favourites fail to connect to the internet and in some instances Google fails to connect. Normally solve the prob. by doing a sys restore and letting the updates re-do themselves. Any one else experience this tiresome prob.?

Simon

Updates installed fine for me today, Rick.  :dunno:

Since my last post I've sys restored & chose not to let win update pro tem and all is fine, favs working OK again etc.. Am sorely tempted to ignore win updates altogether from now on as I'm getting fed up to the back teeth of the same thing every darn week. It's obviously something to do with my particular machine but I'm also tempted to let malwarebytes and nod32 handle the WINXP dying software from here on.  Obviously I'm leaving myself a bit open to probs but so be it.

Simon

Have you tried turning Windows Update off, and just installing the critical updates manually, Rick?

I have this in mind Simon and will probably give it a whirl over the weekend. Eg; install 1 by 1, test and possibly identify a culprit.
Tks for your replies.

Simon

I'm no expert, Rick, just winging it, but it might be worth a try.  ;)

I had a problem after the 11 patches yesterday, but only on one machine. A number of apps complained at the re-boot, but a second re-boot fixed it. If you're using Firefox, Rick, get hold of the FEBE addon, and back up Firefox immediately before the updates. You can then restore just FF.

I'm still with v3.0.684 myself. ;D

Rik

I think I'll wait a while. ;)
