Windows Vista doesn't use a web browser for updates though, and surely updates could be downloaded on another machine and pushed/pulled accross the network as exe files?  :)

There was a lot of problems with IE8 Beta and online banking.

It didn't work with Nat West.  Anyone used it with HSBC or Nat West ??

I guess the only way is to try it, but can you backtrack to IE7 if it doesn't work?

I suspect they were resolved. If not, doesn't IE8 have that compatibility view for sites that don't render properly? It's funny that Microsoft have had to put that feature in so that IE8 works with sites that have formerly had to be hacked to work in IE in the first place! :)

IE8 works fine with Natwest for banking if you set it up to be in compatibility mode it downloads a constant list of what needs to be run that way so you don't have to, I have left it on manual as sites that say they are broken seem to run ok anyway so far.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

CCleaner 2.19.900 released thats twice in one week, reason being "due to a new version of Firefox (3.5beta4) that was released the same day and an IE8 cookie bug that crept back in"

edit* CCleaner 2.19.900 appears to have a bug, if you store passwords in FF cleaning saved form history will also wipe out your passwords, the way to avoid it is untick that option or exclude the file. The file name for exclusion is signon3.txt just hunt out it in your profiles.  :)
