Can someone remind me, when updating SuperAntiSpyware, do I have to delete the old version and install the new one?

Noreen

So how do you update it, Rik? Sorry, I'm feeling a bit dim today.

Rik

I usually just hit 'check for updates' then let it do its thing. It all happens 'in situ'.

Noreen

I meant update the version, Rik.

Rik

Sorry, doing that seems to update the program for me as well. Either that, or I've been completely misreading the update process.

Noreen

Is yours the free version and what version no. do you have, Rik?

Rik

Free and 4.27.1000, which doesn't look that recent...

It's the latest, I think. Clicking Update only updates the defs for me.

Rik

Same here. I don't know why I thought it didn't look right, really. It's been a long day.  :stars:

So to get back to the nitty-gritty, I have to re-install the program to get latest version.

Rik

I didn't, if that is the latest. It appeared to update the program when I did a check for updates.

on the main window click 'Preferences' then the 'Updates' tab then 'Check for updates now...' button.

the Check for Updates on the main window just does the definitions

It's as Rik says Noreen, it will update automatically when you check for updates but new version updates as opposed to signature updates are rolled out over several days otherwise the servers would crash if everybody tried to update at once.
I think but am not 100% certain that if you do download the new version you can install it over the top without uninstalling. Used to be able to do it that way but don't have SAS on board at the moment because of conflicts with other software - Outpost in particular.

You can just install over the top as DarkStar says, I only use it as a resident scanner, no active protection, but the download is available online if you need it.

Thanks, Baz, that did it. ;D
