Have you got SP2 on it yet? I've found that does help a lot.

Have to be honest, Seb, I don't know!     I use the machine so little, when I do turn it on, by the time I've waited for it to boot up, settle down, and get the updates, I've forgotten what I wanted to do on it, or fallen asleep. 

I can't imagine Simon doing that.

My Laptop boots up really fast Simon easily as fast as my old XP machine if not faster, my WEI score is 5.4 which for a laptop with Vista Ultimate is pretty good, have you done a major defrag and clean out, a boottime degraf helps loads as does perfect disc which arranges all the files required for booting up first for speed on the drive/drives

No, I'm not all that interested in it to be honest, Gary.  I expect I'll get round to updating and servicing it one day.

I took IE8 simply because since Vista and XP rely on IE so much, I'd rather have a safer version of that browser than IE6 or 7 even if I rarely use it, as far as why they were pushed out mid-cycle  thats an odd one 

Totally agree. Plus it genuinely is better than IE7.

I've been using Registry First Aid+ for many years.

I dont touch the registry apart from by hand, its CCleaners abilty to clean flash cookies, memory dumps, temp files, chkdsk fragments, windows log files etc and to clean FF up along with a host of other programs I like.
