i checked for updates in the FF add on section and there was one available.seems ok today as the indicator in the plug in add on section is not showing as 'disabled for your protection' or similar to that

Rik

All very weird, isn't it.  :dunno:

I noticed a java update for firefox popped up today, but firefox blocked it for known stability/security issues. I wish they actually said which one it was, because if it was only stability within firefox and not a security issue, then it could lead to vulnerabilities on the operating system itself  ???
what do you mean java Niall, Java runtime? Thats not firefox based its, for all browsers, and FF should not block an update by another program if its a security issue, it may block the plugin though but the installation will run from JRE itself  ???
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Baz

yeah think it was a plug in Gary see the reply number 2225 at the top of this page

Not had that issue on the Mac, but Macs use their own Java runtime so who knows, but FF did block that Microsoft plugin a while ago in a similar manner when it was deemed to be a risk  :dunno:

The Java update to Java 6 update 20 installed a new plug-in in FF, the last several updates have done this.
If you open FF tools > Add-Ons > Plugins you should see two Java Deployment kits - 6.0.190.4 and 6.0.200.2.
You need to disable 6.0.190.4 as that is the one that is causing the pop-ups and leave 6.0.200.2. You cannot uninstall them, only disable them.
In fact you very rarely need Java as opposed to JavaScript, I use the Quick Java add-on to FF that sits in the bottom R/H corner above the task bar and can turn J/S and Java on and off as and when needed. Very handy little add-on.
It is all these plugins that keep getting added to FF that are gradually putting me off FF. Have been playing with the Chrome clones and they are blazing fast, have loads of add-ons and are how browsers should be built. FF have some serious work to do in my opinion.

Is Iron still worth a look, i refuse to use google chrome for privacy issues or any google app I long ago dispatched GE, in fact I don't even use google as a search engine now.

Sorry for taking a while to reply Gary, have been far too busy this last week  :o
I have played with Iron but have found ChromePlus to be be the best alternative by far. It looks just the same as Google Chrome and uses all the same add-ons but without the built in google identifier. It also has some very nice extra settings as well. Highly recomended.

Yes thanks Rik. First my father in-law finished up in hospital for a couple of weeks and then went into a care home. Had to sort that all out and empty the bungalow. At the same time my Grandaughter moved at short notice into a bigger house that needed a lot of work so everything at home got rather behind. Have spent the last week or so catching up with the garden and other jobs and trying to get out on my bike for a few rides before I see my new cardiologist on 6th May. Voting day  :eek4:
Grandaughter now has a confirmed booking back from Dubai for next Monday, they seem to have spent most of the extra 9 days on the beach. A bit more pleasant than Felixstowe I suspect  ;D

Busy times, Ian. We have been going through some of the same, with my MIL being hospitalised, the complication being she lives on the Isle of Man, so it's not possible to just pop round. It looks like she's going to be discharged home, but I would feel more comfortable if she went for a couple of weeks respite care first, just to be certain she's OK.

I'm seeing my cardiologist on Monday, I don't know whether to be pleased or scared. ;)
