Case study - big improvement

Hi,

I just visited a friend who was having ADSL problems. He had an NTE5a with a regular, ISP-supplied soap on a rope filter and no extensions. He'd put his BT Homehub in the next room and used the 20m version of this ultra-flat (non-twisted) cable which the person in Maplin had assured him was suitable for ADSL.

His sync was in the high 800s and he had a 750 profile (less than 2miles from the exchange).

I replaced his filter with an ADSLNation XTE2005, moved the router next to the master socket, put in a 1m pro modem cable then ran Ethernet on CAT5e into the next room for his PC. 

The result is a 3294 sync, an instant 1500 profile and it looks like he's on track for a 2500 profile by Thursday. That flat cable was killing the thing.

I couldn't work out how to get the SNRM out of the BT Homehub (Does anybody know how to log into it? I got into the web interface and tried the a few password combinations I got off Google but none of them worked.)

If his sync was shot down to the 800s I'm thinking his SNRM could be way up and I'm hoping he may get even more speed than the 3.3M sync I'm seeing now when the SNRM comes down to a sane value.

His ISP could give him the figures.

Looking around, bt home hub username is admin, password is admin or for later versions the serial no after the S/N
