I would imagine that satellites would have too much latency for the web.

I agree, Rik. The latency is evident when UK TV shows do interviews live with someone in the US.

One of the main UK's data highways goes within 20 feet of my brothers front door in Helston, it was part of an optical fibre network upgrade, or so he was lead to believe.
