I've done a quick Google but it seems quite technical.  Could some nice bod explain it to me please?  It was disabled but from what I can gather it should be enabled???  :eyebrow:  It seems to relate to NAT and Firewall stuff so it sounds important.

I have enabled this on the Router, is this ok for increased security?

Thanks.

Simon

I'm sure someone will clarify this soon, Jimbo, but it won't be me!  ;D

Sip is used for multimedia comm's. For things such as voice and video. It was designed by the ietf who basically design the internet. The alternative to sip is h323 which was designed by the telecomm's carriers.

What does it do.

It controls video/audio sessions by Establishing connections, it can also modify sessions by changing the ports being used. It can also tear down sessions (finish). Its main purpose it to deliver invitations to possible session participants. Think iplayer/realplayer/voip

why do we need it

Bit of a bugger to explain...
It helps finding possible users as they move around from place to place.

This explains it in fairly english terms......

to answer the original question lol.

If you have no issues with video or voice, i wouldn't worry about it. If you do, turn it on

Thanks ever so much. :D

I'm going to re-read through everyone's posts and see if I can take it all in. :)  Seems like it can't do any harm?  Or can it?!

:)

Actually I've just disabled it again, I think it's probably there for the VoIP functionality on the SingTel firmware.  :D

Appreciate all the help!
