Not sure about the colours or speed of the hard drive but for a small pc you could hook up to a widescreen tv its great. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/07/29/dell_studio_hybrid/

But with the connectivity, In and the advances in cooling I imagine its not a bad price, comparable to a laptop of decent spec, but one that has hdmi to plug into your tv for hd, gone is the big tower and think how neat it would look :) my graphics card cost about that price, thankfully it was given as a sorry for issues upgrade  ;D

Fair comment Gary ;), it's just that I will not be rushing off to buy one. ;D

No need f you have a working pc, In but I imagine pc's will go this way as electricity prices rocket, and people want space saving without ugly towers

In all honesty Gary, the amount of electricity used by any computer is minimal in comparison with say a heater or oven etc.

I reckon that towers will always be the standard, simply because they are so easily and cheaply upgradeable.

I can of course see the advantages of a nice small computer in certain situations. ;)

Thats true In, but some CPU's use 130 watts then you have graphics, cards ontop hard drives etc, it soon mounts up, but I think with the outrageous price hike this year companies may use it as an excuse to sell eco pc's to those who want to be ripped off maybe, a pc like that would be great in say a bedroom but I just like full size towers myself  ;D

I would think that they are Intel Atom powered PC's, using a board similar to this

Thats pretty impressive Glenn, and very power efficient, I can see a market for them with that kind of mobo performance

I have thought about building one, but can't justify it at the moment. Depending on the graphics, it would make a great media streaming pc, hide it away and control it via a Media Centre remote. Or, if you don't have a Sat Nav in your car, then install Destinator 3 and add a DC/DC power board along with a touch screen it would also be able to play your MP3's etc. Have I just justified it?

Large towers do have the benefit of being less expensive, easier to upgrade and work on but most look pretty ugly compared to something like the new Dells or a laptop particularly if you are going to use it as part of an entertainment system too. I think smaller discrete boxes will be preferred by those who don't require the ultimate in performance.

We bought a laptop, not because we needed to take a computer with us if we went out but because it doesn't take up much room and doesn't look out of place when left out.

However if the new Dells had been available at the time then we may well have got one of those instead. Unlike the laptop though there would have to be a wired connection with a monitor but at least the keyboard and mouse are wireless.

Not particularly impressed by many of the colours but at least the optional ones are only £10 extra (apart from the bamboo which is £70).

I don't think they're a bad price for what they are and you're obviously paying a premium for the smaller components like you do with a laptop and because they're new, but no doubt they will be cheaper or better spec'd in a few months.

A bit different from the 'Acorn Atom' (circa 1980)  ;D

I think there needs to be a significant devlopment of lower powered and cooler running processors. perhaps in 10 years time the processors we use now will be like comparing vaccuum tubes to transistors.

They will if history repeats itself John.

Think you might have ;D I could be persuaded to get for one lounge, plug it into the HD tv, when we move, as the Alienware is huge and will be going in a different room, this would make a nice media unit really and I'm not really a laptop fan, for me it could be ideal as a third machine (Justina has a laptop) but would she let me

I like these; they're very "cute". That said, I prefer to have more of a standard case with some room for expansion. ;)

Rik

I feel the same about my clothes, Seb.  ;D  :food2:

These are not really meant for expansion Sebby, more a second media pc for the living room I think, and with 3GB of memory not 1Gb as stated in the article with bluray as well for about £700 it would be great as just that.

I reckon you could hide them, imagine it on a glass stand with a HD TV, if it was at the bottom, with its depth you would not see much hopefully. :)

Is that the computer or Rik with a 'ton of wires' coming out of the back that you don't think is cute Ann ?  :out:

Seriously though with a wireless keyboard, mouse and internet connection there only needs to be two wires, one for the power and one for the monitor signal.
