Here's another one.

I switched off my PC at 11.45pm last night.

This morning at 7.50 I logged on and as usual had a wee look at my monthly usage - it's showing a usage for today of 0.01 (that's 10 megs isn't it ?)

How can there be any usage for today if my machine was turned off yesterday ??

Did IDNet not turn back their clocks a few weeks ago ?

Your machine wakes up when you go to sleep and talks to all the other machines, whose owners are asleep.  After all Robots have electric dreams. ;D :banana2:

You sure it wasn't the 'net fairy doing a nightly surf?  ;)

Perhaps IDNet work on a 6am-6am day or something similar? Your best bet would be to give them a ring to query it if no-one here has a definitive answer.

Do you use a router, and keep it powered on 24/7?

No - USB modem

OK, so it's not 'keep alive' chatter or anything similar. You're going to have to phone CS I think.

BTW, I would advise making the move to a router, you're much more secure behind a NAT/SPI firewall, and it's much less demanding on the CPU.

I don't know if it's a feature of the timing equipment they use that it should be imprecise  but one of Plusnet's many problems was that they were not to a few GB either way of the midnight hour in their recording of bandwidth usage.

But of course if you went 1 bit over your allowance, they sent the Blues Brothers in.

You wouldn't think it would be too hard to get right - and with IDNet I've never had that problem myself - but then what do I know?

Ring them up as your man Rik says to get it sorted out.
