DPI is the ideal way to snoop, to allocate bandwidth instead of just increasing it for certain applications users such as p2p even the bbc iplayer, but it could in theory stop DDoS attacks but also search out those DRM tracks as well being sent across the web, or building profiles on users. Do we really want all of our information looked at in real time without any noticeable slowdown? Story here

I suspect we have seen the golden days of the 'net, Gary, and the future will become far more controlled, for our own good of course. :(

Indeed Rik, to protect each and every one from the monster that is the freedom the net once gave us its the governments answer to CCTV for the internet, and I bet some wonderful figures on the reduction of this, and we caught all the evil people doing that, will be released to justify our loss of free speech

As ever. :(  Freedom :rip:
:'( there will be some fantastic blogs, and sites going down because of this, funny though, it should be able to pinpoint I would think worms and virus attacks, but I bet the security suites will still be there, going up in price each year with another gazillion features to make us safe  :shake: what next, a ban on political satire shows like Mock the week? How far do you take away free speech in the name labels like the war on terror and the BPI's wallets
