Another dropped PPP?

Had a reply from Andrew:

"There were no system-wide outages that we are aware of around that time yesterday either on our side or BT's.
I will get your line checked with BT to see if there are any issues present on your line specifically and let you know."


I have replied, pointing out that it wasn't just me, with a reference to this thread.

Heard back from Andrew again:

Despite the flag on your line, BT turned nothing up so it must have been a blip.

We've seen a number of end users affected by a ppp drop around the time you mention, but it wasn't as the result of anything within our network that we can see.

There were a number of thunderstorms overnight in the region which can commonly cause stale sessions on the BT network side.

Though there have been no official notifications regarding this from BT, we feel this is likely what caused the drops.

I suspect that's as much as anyone can guess for such a brief outage. I've never heard of thunder affecting PPP before, though.

I lost connection around 9pm last night too.  Unplugged router from the phone line, left it 30 secs and then put it back in.  Been fine since.

I just left mine alone and waited, then it came back on it's own after a couple of minutes.

Me neither. I'm not convinced that was the cause.

After denying any problems and claiming all was well we have now received notification from BT that they are to be perform "engineering works" on their router that connects to us. This is to take place in the early hours (00:01 to 06:00) on the morning of Thursday 14th. With the possibility of follow-up works in the same time frame on 28th August. We can expect one or more periods of downtime during these windows.

No evidence of any service interruptions for last night in my router log. What ever BT did last night they must have done it very very quietly.
