As you have an 'old' PC already, it would only cost the price of a couple of mid/large HDU's and the OS. You would have to build the replacement PC first :eek4:

Thanks Glenn for that,Im already looking around as I am going to build a pc,the one in question (i have 4)is nothing more than a spare I just wanted some data off it which I can get off from the HD anyway (with luck).

Simon has been assisting me in tracking down a mobo (get him?) and Im getting there soon the good bit, spending money and making a total mess of it (like hell I will)

Im just going to read this link properly now  ;D

Because I couldn't think of a way to include myself grammatically. ;D

Perhaps we could interest David in a Windows Home server, its very good at back up and restore. It solved Ray's HID issue without affecting his BP

Certainly did, Steve, in fact it lowered my BP when it worked successfully.  :) I'd thoroughly recommend it, David, never did find the cause on mine apart from Windows complaining about a corrupt or missing driver.  ???

Uncle Bill told me that he would give some money away if I sold some more copies of WHS

Steve

I am trying to centralise a lot of my data now that the duplicated folder bug seems to be sorted with pp1. PP1 also allows you to add a drive as backup for personal and shared folder data. I now have a central store of photo's which are seamlessly accessible as I have redirected the link for pictures from the start menu on the Laptop. The advantage being that hard drive space is released and disorganised partial duplication avoided.

I'm all for that, Steve, I grew up on the client/server model. Peer-to-peer has always frustrated me in its redundancy, and the need to keep synchronising machines.

What I'd really like to see is software houses moving to a 'seat' licensing model for home use, so that you had access to any app from any machine.

I'd agree with that as well, Rik, always annoys me that if you've got more than 1 machine at home you usually have purchase separate licences to use it on the other machines. I'm sure if they perhaps charged a bit more for the licence but allowed you to use it on up to  3 or 4 machines they would reduce illegal copying no end, and probably make more money as well.

Rik

Exactly, Ray, which is essentially what they do with commercial licensing.
