Acer L320 has no e-SATA ports just usb and firewire. I have a WD My book, seems fine but does need an external power supply.

If its for a central store of music, photo's and videos you might as well network it via a NAS drive or better still WHS and get backup as well. PS  Couldn't resist. ;D

The cheapest option might be to fit an extra internal drive, David. It would be a lot faster than USB.

But this machine is under warranty Rik  ???

OK. Almost any external USB drive, the bigger the better, but don't try and work on files on the drive, use the internal drive for that.

But this machine is under warranty Rik  ???

Opening your machine and putting in a new hard drive shouldn't void your warranty, it just means the parts you put in or touched is not covered by it. But please check your warranty first before doing anything inside the machine.

Take a look at this (http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=309098&sourceid=6631), David. The price seems pretty good, and I have one of the drives myself.

Are these easy to use,can I access the stuff and use it when I want and thats it ?
I am assuming it just shows up as another drive and thats how I would listen or look at whatever I wanted.

Is this about right.....?

Yes I am going to buy one in a few hours just have to make my mind up which one  :thumb:

Thanks to you all

My friend has that exact drive. As with all external hard drives (or at least all I've ever seen) you just plug it in, Windows will install the drivers (i.e. no software necessary) and you access it like a normal hard drive.

I've got a Western Digital MyBook Home and I'm really pleased with it. :)

You can also assign the drive a letter, David, to make it easier to remember, eg R for removable, say.

Didnt order last night but I think this one gets the vote for what I need.the postage is high for next day so wont go for that, there is no urgency in this one and I do like the size of it and being able to carry it around appeals to me.

It looks foolproof just plug and play which makes life easier and I like the makers.. :thumb:

Or look at the Verbatim one I've posted in Tweaks & Tips, very good price from noon - but be there promptly, I suspect it will sell fast.

It's pretty much weekly for me, but finding a vein generally seems to be hard - and average of three attempts per sample.  :eek4:
