Title: Kaspersky Suite
Post by: sparky on Dec 06, 2008, 18:22:28
Is anyone using Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on Vista ?
Or more to the point I suppose, has anyone had any problems with it?

I ask, because I see that there seems to have been various opinions over previous versions of this suite, some of you seem to have used it with no problems, others have had troubles. At the moment it is being offered pretty cheap on their website http://www.kaspersky.com/store  £19.99, until 24th December only. PCW gives it a recommended award if that means anything.

I'm not totally sure I need it, as I practise safe surfing, have windows vista firewall (yeah, I know it's not supposed to be that good), AVG free, and I am behind a NAT router, but I'm not the only user of this PC, I always felt safer with a two way firewall like zonealarm.

Thanks.

We did have a member using it, Sparky, but he no longer posts here.

I use it on 2 Vista machines and 1 xp, the only issues I have are the occasional slow updates from their server.I would suggest the free trial and see how you get on.

You can purchase it considerably cheaper ,i.e you can get a 3 machine licence on amazon for £19.99,licence keys are also available on ebay

OK. Cheers Steve,

I'll try the free version first, then see how much I can get it for if it causes me no problems.

Thanks.

I use it on one of my XP machines with no problems, in fact I've just purchased a 3 licence renewal for £14.99 so I can put it on my main PC and Laptop when the licences expire on my existing Eset Security Suite shortly.

I did use it Sparky had the suite on three machines I did encounter problems after one of the updates and the only way I solved this was reluctantly removing it and this solved the issues.
To be honest I did not quite know how to remove the update and as the problems ceased after getting rid of it I just accepted it.

I did once have to contact Kaspersky and they proved very good indeed.....I doubt this will help but I do put this hiccup down to my ignorance rather than the suite

I have used Kaspersky for about a year now, and I think it's absolutely great - and excellent value (we bought 3 antivirus only licenses for £17!). I've had no problems with 2009 or any previous versions. I'd highly recommend it. :thumb:

I use the 2009 internet security suite on Vista64 here with no problems at all. Only reason is if you bank with Barclays you get it free for a year :D

I had it, it was a free offer from my bank, full version.   Had loads of trouble but I could never pin it directly on Kap, but when I unloaded it and put in Avast the troubles stopped.  The Mc running Vista seemed to be OK, but the XP Mc was a No No.

The thing that's always worried me about Kaspersky is that it's a Russian company. Given where a lot of the nasties originate...

I suppose you could look at it that they would also know how to get rid of them.  ;)

I prefer good old German technology and use Avira (free) of course,  also use Threatfire, Defender and spyware blaster..all this on marvelous Vista.  It all seems to work fine with no performance hit and more importantly NO nasties on my machine. ;D

I've often thought that the AV companies are the people responsible for the virii in the first place.  Makes sense to keep their business's going.

I share your cynicism, Vit.  If there were no viruses, most of their products wouldn't be needed.

It's strange to think that a lot of viruses exist to highlight the insecurity of systems. That said, many (the majority?) are to steal our information in some way or another. :(
