I have finally got round to asking for a bit of help after a few months,i keep getting a windows update icon on my desktop, when i click to install it it starts and then it tells me its for microsoft office and word 2003, and i need to insert a disc? i dont have a disc to start with so i cant complete the instalation of the update, i just want to get rid of the annoying icon that appears everytime i boot my pc up, any suggestions...thanks
Control panel > System> Automatic Updates and then select any option other than Automatic (recommended )
I have clicked on control panel, cant find system you mentioned, and what do you mean tick everything but automatic which is recommended, dont understand sorry
try a right click on My Computer icon, select Properties, navigate to Automatic updates and follow advice from kinmel.

It's appearing because there are updates to install. Do you have your Office disc?

Don't think he has according to his post Sebby.
I'd tend to dump the update with control panel/add remove/ .. don't bother to ask me again choice.
The offce updates were critical and really need doing, if you could borrow a disc to put in while it updates that may help, but without those office updates your system is wide open to attack sadly.
Thanks for the help lads, you guys are great, the only choice i had to get rid of it was to turn of updates completly, i will ask about and see if anyone has an office disc in the meantime, but i doubt it very much :thumb:, just had a look on google, seems there are lots of people with the same problem, havent got a solution yet though
Run Windows update, select custom, find the Office updates, and check the "don't show me these" box. That will solve the nagging, but not the security issue. Office usually caches installation files on your HD, so that it can apply updates without asking for a disc. I take it that hasn't happened?

I think the caching of installation files is an option only, Rik, and the user can choose not to during the installation.
